NAIROBI’S BARBECUE LIVE FESTIVAL: WHERE MEAT LOVERS UNITE FOR A TASTY AFFAIR

By Embukane Vincent Libosso

O
ne thing with our blog is that we have always showcased the best of what Nairobi has to offer. But today, let’s talk about food and everything food. The Barbecue Festival (BBQ) is all about a tasty affair!

We love sharing meals and man we have got appetite! The BBQ is an annual affair and arguably one of Kenya’s leading food affair.
It is a meaty affair, featuring ready-to-eat tender beef, sweet-tasting lamb, greasy mutton, pork, chicken, goat, prawns, crabs, shrimps and lobsters among other available delicacies.

Here, basically the aim is to grill anything edible that you can think of. The director of the festival Sandra Mawira notes, “rules are simple: a ticket purchase is the only way to ‘eat till you drop’”

At times, the event throws in a “battle of the chefs”; where host chefs from leading restaurants in Nairobi, Mombasa and across Kenya battle it out.
They use their scrumptious meat specials in a battle to win over the guest’s taste buds; as well as the title of the Top Chef.

Cooked up from an idea in 2010; the festival has grown into a grand showcase of meaty cuisine, attracting thousands of foodies in Nairobi.

“Growing up, my mother held Saturday barbecues at her house. This brought all friends and family together, irrespective of any differences. That”, recalls Sandra “was mu inspiration to establish this festival. Who doesn’t love nyam chom?”

When you’ve had all you can eat, other special attractions and fun awaits you as your tummy settles peacefully.
