2013 has been a remarkable year for Blankets & Wine. We’ve had some great times, made some unforgettable memories and grown together in many ways.

From our sentimental goodbye to Mamba Village in January to our ecstatic entry intoCARNIVORE KENYA in February through to the somber Westgate Tribute concert in October, it’s been a winding road filled with cherished moments. And we have you to thank for it all.

As we enter our 5th year, Blankets & Wine will in January 2014 celebrate its 50th edition which also coincides with Kenya’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Beginning with our 48th edition in November, we kicked off a series of events that will culminate in a grand concert in January to mark this milestone in our journey through Kenyan music.

This December 1st, we celebrate the boys. From the next generation of musicians to the pioneering lot that have in their respective ways contributed to the growth of Kenya’s live music scene and in the process helped grow Blankets & Wine into East Africa’s premier music experience.

Pack your picnic baskets, blankets and join us as we usher in the festive season and bid goodbye to 2013 at the 49th edition of Blankets & Wine this December 1st at the Carnivore Gardens, Nairobi from 1pm to 7pm. Performing at this end year edition will be the animated H_ART the BAND, the breezy Harry Kimani, the splendid Eric Wainaina and the ignited Makadem.

KIRAN JETHWA: KENYA’S FIRST CELEBRITY CHEF

VINNY’S KITCHEN

In 2013; Chef Kiran Jethwa made it as the finalist for the prestigious Taste Awards for Industry Champion Award. The chef and owner of Seven Seafood and Grill is Kenya’s first celebrity chef, with his exciting TV-show Tales from the Bush larder, a popular highlight on Zuku and recently premiering in London.

At the awards, Kiran told us how he treated the Taste judges as guinea pigs for the menu for the London launch.

“The inspiration was all based on food from the show and all the dishes had a very Kenyan edge to them. There were a number of mistakes made and I know it cost me,” Kiran explained.

It was the lessons learnt from this experience the Kiran credited to his success in London.
