Kenya's Ruth Matete is the winner of Tusker Project Fame season five, going home with Sh5million in cash. After eight weeks in the music reality show, Ruth emerged tops beating 15 contestants from six different countries, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and first-timers Burundi.
In the finals, four contestants Kenya's Ruth and Doreen Muchiri, as well as Burundi's Jackson Kalimba and Joe Irankunda had to fight for the top prize. Jackson became the second runners-up while Doreen was the first runners-up. Performing a rendition of rock band Coldplay's song 'speed of Sound', Ruth managed to get the highest number of votes.
"I want to thank God, and all my fans who voted! I will not disappoint you," said an emotional Ruth, after she was declared winner by East Africa Breweries Limited marketing director Deborah Mallowah.
The colourful grand finale saw all the 15 conetstants attend the show.
Among the highlights included a mock performance by Samuel Gitao, who is popular for having among the worst performances during the audition process, performing Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.
Just before the winner was announced, Kenya's pop trio Camp Mullah perfomed their hit song 'Party Dont Stop'.
