MR & MISS DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY FAILS TO LIVE UP TO ITS BILLING

#SPOTLIGHT

The same words I echoed earlier, on Friday 25th April 2014, came to haunt the event’s organizers of the Mr. and Miss Daystar University-Nairobi Campus. I wrote in part “…Sure, the Edward Wanyoike’s social welfare and events committee dockets could use some lively strategies to heighten up the event and hype it, but we will take the poor strategies. Although there is need to keep the event lively and moving forward, or else, many comrades will pull away and fail to support the event as we have seen this semester with many calendar events. But that would be asking for too much for a show that is just two year old. So, to Edward and team, you have everyone’s attention- and you can only fail if you want to!”

That is exactly what happened! The event flopped! But allow me to focus on the positive as any positive minded writer would.
It was to say the least a pretty tough contest, and ‘pretty” is the word as 12 contestants lined up for the esteemed Mr. and Miss Daystar University/ SOEA event at the jam-packed Pride Inn Restaurant in Westlands, Nairobi.
The well-dressed crowd made sure the paparazzi would have a hard time. The ladies dressed to kill and the guys brought their A-GAME-dressing on-point!  The dinner was great although was cold after it was served late.

For an event that was to start at 6pm, and cruise till midnight, the event organizers had to delay till past 10pm to start and end around the wee hours of the morning.
Outside, the crowd kept coming. There was hardly any space left at the parking lot. Inside, Citizen’s Johnson Mwakazi kept charging the crowd before handing the mic to System Unit’s MC-Njugush alongside DJ Moh on the decks.

Hosted by One FM’S evening drive host: MC Chito and Daystar student, Nyawira, here the party was not all about the deejay mixes. The crowd spread over the dinner tables sharing drinks and bonding as they took selfies.
There was hardly any space inside and as the crowd seemed not into the hype, many decided to leave and hit the Westlands’ party scenes.
The unexpected shocker of the night was a cameo appearance and performance by Prezzo. He made a good statement of himself with a starling performance- charging the crowd as they sang along to his popular “mafans” and “come let’s get down” tunes.

However, the crowning went to Schumi and Dmitri who were awarded Miss and Mr. Daystar respectively. The vent had its highs and lows, but, besides; the morning had come and the exhausted crowd fizzled, everyone off to their sweet aboard.
