LET US TALK ABOUT KENYAN ROCK MUSIC

#kenyanrocker

2013 was what I can call a sweet year for Kenyan rock. I had the privilege of attending Oktoberfest and seeing the enthusiasm of diehard rockers.
2014 is here with us and already on February, The Claymore Project Band had a rare privilege of appearing on Citizen Television. They treated us to a number of their soon to be released album.
With the year already rolled out; many heroes of the rock scene have made some big decisions. Some have quit; some have put down the strings and sticks to go into production; while yet others have moved from one band to another.

But for me; tracing some highlights of 2013 only gives a glimpse into what lies ahead for the remaining acts.
The Claymore project landed an interview on NTV’S #THE TREND and after released their first single; ‘we are the night’.

Mortal Soul released their debut EP and video of one of their songs- “solace.” LYT’S long awaited EP-“challenge Accepted” was also released. It holds several gallons of brutal metal juice.
Hard rockers, Parking Lot Grass took Kenyan rock into uncharted territory. They became the first Kenyan rock band to play in Europe.

Seeing rock bands get featured on major TV stations such as NTV and Citizen; was massive. #THE TREND; a highly followed evening show, provided that much needed platform to highlight Kenyan rock music- and what followed, fans online tripling.
This is the perfect time for us as writers and media to jump into this rock sensation. Given the flurry of interest the scene is getting both in and outside Kenya, I can only hope my kind words will get me free tickets when our bands start playing at bigger shows like Rift Valley Festival and Blankets and Wine; writes rock head Sam Kiranga for Nation newspaper’s Zuqka.
