FIBROIDS: AFRICA ’S SILENT INVASION…PART
2
AT RISK?
- Fibroids are most common from the age of 30, all the way to menopause.
After menopause, they usually shrink away, becoming harmless.
- If your mother
had fibroids (or indeed any blood relative), the chances of you suffering
too increases threefold.
- Did you know that fibroids are 3- times more likely to occur in women of African descent than Caucasians?
The reason why is still baffling scientists.
- For overweight
women, the risk of developing fibroids is between 2 and 3 times higher
than women who are not obese.
- Research shows that women who consume lots of red meat are more at risk of fibroids.
Conversely, consuming plenty of
green veg, fruits and fresh fish is thought to lower the risk of
developing fibroids.
