MY FIRST “NAIROBI JAVA HOUSE “EXPERIENCE
#OUT & ABOUT
A fortnight ago on a Friday evening, I got
invited by my dear brother for an evening chat and catch-up time. In Capital
Centre Mall along the busy Mombasa Road, you’ll find Nairobi Java House. It was
quite easy for us to drive from South-B, where my bro lives and use the back
gate and we got a great parking spot.
As you enter the well-designed Java House,
the mouthwatering scent hits your nose, and your eyes feast on the delicious
cakes on display and yes, the great African artwork on the walls are never
amiss for the eagle eye.
The place was abuzz and full of life with
customers and the waitress was at our table as soon as we had sat. She brought
the menu humbly and being new, I let my big brother make the choice and he went
for one that did not disappoint.
We went with the life-changing mocha double for
two and I have to admit that was the most exciting thing that had gone through
my food pipe in a long time.
That was the ultimate remedy for a communication
student like me after a hot, sticky and exhausting long day. It was warm and
thick and it just went ahead to spark a great revolution down my throat into my
tummy.
Mmhh… and sticking to sweet stuff; why don’t
you try Java’s Milkshakes the next time you plan to visit. The recipe is their
very own in-house and homemade specially for you-all natural ice cream.
And plus, what do you have to lose when Java
is offering their celebrated milkshake in a range of flavors including vanilla, banana,
strawberry, chocolate, espresso, mocha, vanilla, pineapple and mango. Yummy!

EASY TAXI APP SET TO DIGITALISE NAIROBI TAXI WORLD
#EASY TAXI
This is a small cut from the Diary
of a Taxi Driver series: “I have
been swerving potholes and drunkards on these roads for the last ten years and
witnessed scenes etched forever in my memory. Last night, a girl fell flat on
her face and managed to laugh as she picked herself up and left her dignity in
the puddles. She straightened her muddled dress and tried to balance on
unbelievably high heels. She looked like those newborn giraffe calves learning
to walk and you had to admire her ambition.
I’m sitting in traffic, drumming to Ken Wa
Maria and chuckle when I get flashbacks of these funny incidents. Many customers
using the Easy Taxi App means that I
get jobs regularly and nearby my parking spot. It’s a win-win situation. It hasn’t
stopped the strange happenings on these streets though…”
Nairobi is unpredictable right? Well,
we all have our plan-B and most of the time it is that cab guy during those
matatu strikes, rain-induced traffic jams, fate nights or even at the grocers, or
a night out with your boys or girls.
Well, let’s just say your cab guy
is your wing man- your Robin Hood in a Batman story. Well, but Nairobi, at
times dubbed ‘Nairobbery’; it is hard to trust someone and hence finding that
loyal and reliable can guy ain’t that easy.
Well, a new company that started
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2012 is here with the solution. Easy Taxi is the
world’s largest booking app and I snow available in Nairobi Kenya.
This app is quite intuitive and
easy to use. It is available for Android, Ios, Windows and Blackberry 10
phones and there is also a web application you can use.
Picture this: an app that tracks
your location through GPS; scans around for a taxi that is available near you
and assigns the closest driver possible. Well, if you don’t want that selected
choice, one can reject and the driver can also reject you.
And that’s not all- once you
select a cab, you receive a notification with the driver’s photo, his mobile
number, the type of cab he is driving and the vehicle registration number. You are
now free to call each other with specific pick up instructions and aid with
navigation. Through Waze and Google Navigation; the cab guy is led to you and
can’t get lost.
Nifty right? Well, is it safe I hear
you ask? It even gets better. Easy Taxi takes all the cab drivers through a
vigorous vetting process to ensure rogues are not involved. Also, in case you
hailed a cab and find that you are no longer need it; you can terminate the
call out.
A change is definitely looming. With
the public transport going digital, Easy Taxi is a great game changer to the
market and well I guess Hon. Mututho can relax because
having a night out will no longer include “drink driving”.

KHALIGRAPH JONES' “WE BE HAPPENING” ALL STAR REMIX IS 2014 REMIX OF THE YEAR-THERE I HAVE SAID IT!!!
#VIDEO REVIEW
Towards the end of last year,
#Dumbala remix was so big; I declared it would be the ‘remix
of the year’. Well, last week; Kristoff went ahead and brought together
an all-star lineup of ‘superheroes’ in a
rather bizarre way like the superheroes of the Justice League fiction
cartoon/movie series.
Khaligraph Jones; Nessa; DJ Joe
Mfalme; Frasha; Abbas; Bwana Ngoma and Wyre the lovechild all teamed up
for this song- the #we be happening all-star remix.
Being the only female diva
mcee on the list; my girl Nessa stood out. Debate has been raging on who killed
it with his flow; but that is a debate we leave for you the listeners to
discuss on another forum.
Well, i have officially
declared this ‘my remix of the year 2014 song’. It now joins on the list that
comprises of Wakuu Music Familia featuring Ramzey Siele on the Lazima
Watii remix.
The video is well shot. It is
an indoor video. The tempo is fast and so are the scenes and this makes a great
blend with the video. Quality is high and having DJ Mfalme on the remix was a
great marketing strategy.
The transition of different
scenes for each artist featured also worked well-pretty well!
