HOW TO: ROCK SUNNIES

If you want to know a person – look them right into the eyes; then comes shades or sunnies, if you like. They bring in a whole new personality and nuance altogether. And depending on your moods or the weather, different sunnies will accompany different occasions. But before putting them on, a worthy note to point is your style, shape of head and state of eyes.

If you are the type who is mostly red-eyed following hangovers or physical brawls (which we don’t advocate), go for the very dark kinds that will hide your eyes. Floral print sunglasses go well with colourful outfits and outdoor events like picnics and music festivals, having in mind Dec is the month of a vibrant party scene.

Wayfarers on the other hand are unisex. They will give you an edge and bring a classy feel to your outfit. Aviator sunglasses, also unisex, tend to mysteriously make men look flyer than the females. Most ladies tend to go with the side detail sunglasses that have embellishments to bring an extra personality. Shutter shades are fun for the club.

However, a lot of celebrities and well – just some people, still like to rock ordinary dark sunnies in the club, even though it’s already dark enough. Just make sure you don’t lose your personality behind the shades.

DAYSTAR STUDENTS PUT A SMILE ON THE GIRLS OF KIRIGITI REHABILITATION CENTRE

#HANDS OF COMPASSION

SATURDAY 15TH FEBRUARY; 2014

As a writer; I will be honest- I love seeing a great initiative trend and take hold. With dust settling on the Valentine’s Day; I caught up with a bunch of like-minded Daystarians out and about to share their love also but in a different way.
Last weekend on Saturday; an initiative by Beth Muthoni;  a Public Relations major student and Joe Kareithi; an Electronic media major student; saw them rally their friends for a visit to Kirigiti Girls Rehabilitation Centre- Kiambu County.

In essence; the Centre is actually a juvenile jail for girls below the age of 18 and here they go through counseling and education plus life skills. They also learn extra skills like in tailoring or dress—making. Something to get them ahead in life once they are out and reformed; living in the society.

“I am humbled with the turnout of people and also am forever grateful to DUSA (the student leadership) for making the transport arrangements;” a belated Beth told me before we left for Kiambu.

The initiative did see students donate the much needed slippers and toiletries. At the Centre; we had the great moment as we wined and dined- also had the chance to minister the love of Jesus and hope; and even encourage the girls that this was not the end of the journey but a set-back to a major set-up and comeback.

As we left Kiambu that day; with the girls of Kirigiti all sad and waving goodbye; it hit me that there is need for such like-minded Daysatrians; the Beth Muthonis; the Kareithis and all who attended to come up with more initiatives like this for ministry.

So let us rise up by all means! It is never how big an idea is or how big the initiative sounds-but is what you make of it at the end of the day. At Kirigiti; we represented all those who had made donations and contributions and supported the cause and initiative. And that is you and me!

As an African saying goes; “whoever thinks he is too small to make an impact; has perhaps never spent a night in the company of a mosquito.”

WHEN DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY PRAYS!!!

#SAVEDAYSTAR

Daystar University is once again on its knees after the recent unrest and strikes (or go-slow as those in Athi-River call it) in Athi-River Campus.
With the immense damage all over the media and the university’s god name tarnished; we have sought our solace and refuge under the rock-that’s Christ Jesus- the Day-Star Himself!

Even as we pray; at the end of the day; we should never forget that the destiny of this great university has been placed in your hands and mine; at a time such as this!

It is now within our ability to make or break this university. I trust that our divine calling and proclivity will be towards making it. And so; help us God!

This is not the time for students or the administration to start soliciting for excuse all in the name of “good P.R” and well edited press-releases. This is not the time for scapegoating and saying our strike wasn’t as bad as compared to some public universities we know. No!

None-the less; I do believe there is need to find inspiration in our African people and also from Jesus in the Bible. Each ending of a season provides us with time to reflect rather that scream jubilation. And this time; we can choose to accept it or ignore it!

Is it that time as a community of Daystar we took time to look deep into our souls; to ask ourselves a few hones and hard questions? If things had not worked out; what were the genuine reasons and explanations?
Yes; there could very well have been external factors; but could you or also me have been the principal agent? This is not the time for war-bit for dialogue.

As we rise up once again; above the hills and into the bright vista; ushering in a new hope; as Tata Madiba or the late Mandela would say; is it possible that we can look deep into ourselves; to discover what ails us as my  old man would say? I would personally pray for reasoned dialogue in the place of the deafening noise that we make as leaders or even individuals.

Thank you for reading this! I look forward to your great company! God bless you; God bless Daystar!
