# THE V-MART (VILLAGE MARKET) FACELIFT & REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

BY EMBUKANE VINCENT LIBOSSO
SHOPPING/ LIFESTYLE

“Dude, have you been to V-mart (the Village Market, Nairobi) of late?” my pal asked me the other day, “the fresh new look will blow you away!”
And true to his word, after significant renovations, the new-look Food Court is ready and it is safe to say that it is now the most talked about eating destination in Nairobi. The first phase of the redevelopment- an overhaul of the central Food court area- is nearing its completion.

The new look tastefully done Food Court now features new-tiles; Ferrari sails, new water features, new lighting, state-of-the-art sound system; infrared heaters, new furniture and a lounge atmosphere; better access and ramps for disabled customers, more plants and flowers among other state-of-the-art fittings.
“a number of high quality restaurants are coming to the Village Market,” says Managing Director, Hamed Ehsani, “and we found it necessary to ensure the food court rises to match these high standards.” To him, the renovations couldn’t have happened at a better time.

With V-Mart having clinched the 2011 Taste Awards for Best Food Court; it was an additional challenge for the shopping complex to do even better.
Indeed, the food court has remained vibrant with diners thronging the venue in massive numbers each day to experience the modernized setting with a plethora of international restaurants to choose from.

But the renovations doon’t just end at the food court. The second phase has also begun at the covered parking area. The intended improvements in this second phase include additional parking which has been an issue over the past years, an enhanced Nakumatt and new retail outlets above the current Nakumatt facility.

The Village Market is East Africa’s largest shopping and recreation complex with over 380,000 square feet of retail space, over 20 restaurants and the multi award winning Tribe Hotel. The one-of-a-kind open air shopping mall received a design award and ecognition by the International Council Of Shopping Centers, the authority on shopping malls globally.
Big things are coming to V-Mart. Watch this space!

THE MAKING OF A KENYAN SOCIALITE

By Embukane Vincent Libosso
She is 20 years; in a private university in Nairobi and she calls herself a socialite. Her mood of dressing is all year round low tops, and always to show off her ample tattooed cleavage. She claims her “two girls” draw men and she maintains her tight dresses to show off her life –sized derriere.
A huge number of university girls who crave for fame and attention are now joining the new socialite girls club that has been over the years pioneered by the likes of the sassy Huddah Monroe, Pendo and Vera Sidika.

Like many other so-called socialites, our campus girls are also the so-called video –vixens and who are willing to pose naked online to be famous.
“I’ve gotten down for many latest videos. I’ve starred in local productions. Am I a celebrity groupie?let’s just say I like getting noticed. When I’m with clelebs, I feel iam with my right kind of people.”

They are after the glamour of showbiz. Her ideal guy is T.D.H: tall, dark and handsome, with dreadlocks; but she wouldn’t mind an older jungu (white man) if he was loaded( moneyed).
I don’t do ma-sufferer! Sipendi ma-boy wa –campo wana-struggle sana. I’m not interested in hustlers.”
Her  order for the day is waking up at noon after a night out at a stripper club. But she is quick to let me know that stripper clubs aren’t socialite hangouts.
What about class? I ask. Well, she sayas she does evening classes and pays someone to sign her in and sit for exams too.

“most Sundays, I go to Gypsy’s; Tuesdays to k1’; Wednesdays to Club Bacchus; Thursdays to Club Changes; Friday to Aqua Club and Sato to Tamasha Hurlingham. I am party girl! I go out everyday”; she says with great pride.
Isn’t it expensive? I pose. She tells me her “goodies” seduce men into treating her for the night. She has never bought any drink at the club.

“if he likes this (pointing at her body features) he will definitely pay-trust me!”
Her role models are Vera Sidika and when she grows up; she’d like to be like Huddah Monroe.
What about your parents? “what parents? I ahven’t spoken to any of them since I moved out. We now sharea a house with two other video vixens. So long as my dad pays the fees and sends me monthly support; I am good to go. When I’m broke, so long as I have cash for a cab, I know I’ll get drinks at the club,” she concludes confidently.

NAIROBI STREET FASHION: THE FLORAL CITY!

BY EMBUKANE VINCENT LIBOSSO
F
Lowers, ladies love them! But nothing says a new life like blooming flowers. The new attitude of a flower blooms wardrobe in the city under the sun has caught my hawk eye-my watchful eyes. From floral dresses, to floral tops, shoes and even jeggings; the women of Nairobi have been rocking them on the Kenya Fashion scene.

With the sun out; it is  a sunny summer and with the holiday here; florals are great for the outdoors. Go bold hun; with beautiful floral silk scarfs draped lightly around your neck over a neutral outfit; and add fun to your street look with floral jewelry or hair accessories over anything you like to wear.

This has and will always add a tropical flair to your outfits. Have a conscious BREAST CANCER MONTH LADIES…
