X-RATED SOCIAL EVENTS

EDITOR’S NOTE: THE PIECE BELOW HAS PHOTOS AND VIDEOS SUITED FOR A MATURE AUDIENCE AND THE PIECE ISN’T A RANT OR A RAVE BUT A CONCERNED WRITER FOR A GENERATION THAT SEEMS TO BE GOING DOWN THE DRAIN

Nairobi is a great social destination and recent social events have become the in-thing. They are the new cool and the Methuselah days of club partying and club hopping seem to be a thing of the past.
Nowadays; the young fun lovers are opting for the trendier social events; which seem to be a launching pad for fashion, new artistes, showbiz and recently outdoor social sins.

From Blankets and Wine; to Mingle and now The Circle; event organizers are going out of the way capitalizing on these new phenomenon; as corporates wrestle to swing in partnership sponsorship.
The money made is beyond good. All these events range between KES 1,000 and 3,000 for tickets. They have brought back to life the ordinary club concerts that were long dead in Nairobi.
But this not withstanding; and if the pictures on social media are anything to go by; then these new theme events are fast creating a morally- decaying incubator for the young lads.

Pictures of intoxicated and incoherent youths out on the ground; two girls making out, locking lips and caressing in broad daylight as the public feasted the “lesbian act” and these are just snippets of the reality.
Don’t get me started on a pair that was making out inside a nearby packed automobile; giving the awed onlookers a freebie movie moment.

There is a rising concern over underage school-going teens experimenting with drugs, sex and alcohol on these so-called and branded “family events.”
Our undercover investigations reveal that without a shadow of a doubt; substance abuse is becoming a norm with fresh “cool” innovations of the weed-cookies; sweets, cakes and other junk munchies as well as drug laced shisha becoming the new high in town.
Even as the event organizers strive to maintain sobriety among thousands who throng these venues to unwind; denying the above allegations is just a good P.R show.

THE CIRCLE…

Bernard Kioko of Bernsoft Entertainment is the man behind this event and a host of other celebrities such as Shaffie Weru; Avril; Porgie; Amileena; Colllo and Sarah Hassan among others.
She is the new baby in the outdoor events and is gaining popularity; quickly becoming the talk of Nairobi
Guys who attend The Circle have their unique mode of partying that includes various eye-catching activities such as model auctions; its infamous wet T-shirt competitions and performances.
In their own words they say; “The Circle is not an event; it is a social media movement bringing together Barutas!”

RAMPS AND AMPS…
This bi-annual event celebrates extreme sports and rock music. It brings together young guys below the age of 25.
Another rock heads event is the Battle of The Bands. Both of these events have been mired with teens inappropriately engaging in kissing pleasures and other sexual activities.

THE MINGLE…
A first of its kind- The Mingle took Nairobi by storm on its inception especially gaining popularity with campus students.
Hosted by Adrenaline in Motion, it offers an avenue for professionals to meet; exchange cards and at the same time play games.
The event is “an over 21” with identity cards inspected before entry. Many argue that it is an event where guys come to drink and act stupid; while ladies dress scantily and fight over guys; all this while intoxicated and high.

BLANKETS AND WINE…
The brainchild of artist Muthoni the Drummer Queen; the event has evolved from being a simple outdoor event relaxation event for families; toa phenomenon with fanatical following not just in Kenya but in East Africa.
Many young people who attend the event have been accused of harboring ulterior motives; unlike the mature folks who use the event as a bond and networking point as they exchange ideas over lesos and drinks.

NAKURU SEVENS RUGBY…
Nairobians make an exodus to Nakuru for a weekend of hard partying and rugby. The troops of thousands of Nairobians have been accused of taking their bad habits to the otherwise quiet town.
They say; ‘WHAT HAPPENS IN NAXVEGAS; STAYS IN NAXVEGAS!” But when we go with our cameras then upload what we have captured; then we have pictures of girls making out and drunken youth in intoxicated stupors and sexually suggestive positions.

Editor note… inevitably; every event, at the end of the day has its own fair share of unintended happenings that are not associated with the events’ themes.

ON A PIECE OF PAPER

On a piece of paper
I lay open my feelings and thoughts
I lay open my fears and tears

On a piece of paper
I find a friend to talk to
The writings comfort and console me

On a piece of paper
I speak to the world
I tell them of the longing in my heart

I write of my problems and fears,

hoping that my tears wont erase my words.
I scribble, hoping my eyes wont close from this exhausation.
I support my hand as I write another line,
to let you know of my pain.
Hoping that you'll read this piece I am writing.
Hoping you'll see my weakness and the dangers that pursue me.
 Without you, everything is hopeless.

I am writing for you my love - On a piece of paper

I take letters from my heart,

to quench this desire on this paper.
My only friend, the paper has promised to communicate with you.
I saw no other option. You refused to listen to me speak.
You hanged up on me, you ignored my texts. I am not sure why you crushed my world.
I built it for us hoping together we'd find a home

and make an eternity of bliss. I am writing for you my pain - On a piece of paper

You closed your doors on me,

leaving me to bleed to death,
you let rain harass me out here alone.
Yet you are my strength and warmth.
I lit a candle in the rain, praying it wont die out,
so that when you stared out the window you'd see me writing your name with wax on my skin.
I tried everything I could think of but you my dear, refused to listen.
I knocked on your door a million times until my coronation as "the king of broken hearts."

Why my dear do you refuse me? Yet I am writing for you my efforts - On a piece of paper

I am lonely.

 I am tired of crying.
Please I beg, remember me everywhere you go.
 I called your name daily.
You were all I could think of thru' the night.
I chased your shadow mostly, you were always too fast for me, for I would fall.
'Cause I do not have my heart.
 You stole my heart.
The fire you started in me has refused to die instead it has multiplied because of your walls.

I am tired of this habit of writing - On piece of paper

Come to me my love,

be my friend. Come I show you all the library of papers that have your name.
Come comfort and console me. Come we preach to the world of our victory together.
Come see my fears and tears.
I wanna show you my feelings and share with you my thoughts.
Please my lovely darling, help me breath fully once more.
I do not want to die before holding and kissing you.

I wanna write on your heart and not - On a piece of paper

DEAR STRANGER

I wonder the array of confusion you brought to my
life
I wonder the throbs of my heart that you caused
with your smile
I let you in, with a conviction that I'd finally met
my angel
A sweet angel, who invaded the loneliness of my
sheets
Tearing away the cold, you did let the sun shine in
the night I met you
'Twas only this night I fell in love and got lost as fast as I saw you blinkin'.
Youmade me loose myself into your arms

O stranger
Dear stanger
O stranger, my dear
O dear stranger
Eddy Ongili

How wonderous were you to me that night you
echoed the motions of my body
When you did
infact bless me with a short but everlasting
remembrance of the joy you gave me
But as we
rose and fell in my bed, as we made love, I got
confused at your rubbing
I felt Aphrodite had misled me yet Cupid insisted I was at the right place I had to escape the loving grip of your lips
I had to move away from you

I never got to know your name

I never got to listen to your heartbeat
All I heard were groans and moans
But I did hear you say, you'd like to be with me - I
heard you say you love me

stranger

Why did I chase you away in the middle of the
night
Why, when I thought I had finally met my love
In some way, I thought you were just a ghost
haunting me, because of my loneliness But I felt
you, you were so real
I felt the touch of your kisses and hands
I felt you drinking the love in my cup, I felt you
enjoying the pureness of my cup

I hope you found somewhere to lie that night I

banged the door on you I hope you remember me
You brought something I feel I really need now
I need you stranger, atleast your name first
Where are you stranger?

YOU ASKED ME

You asked me if I could be your friend, your only
true friend - I gave you the world

You asked me if I could be there for you, if I could

come running to you in times of trouble - I
promised to be your friend forever

You asked me what it means to love, what is love -

I told of a love that's beautiful that only a friend
could give

You asked me if one day, I'll decide to walk away, if

anything got wrong between us - I reminded you
that no mistakes or troubles will ever seperate us

You asked me if I will not be there in your times of

trial, if I'd leave you when you needed the most - I
swore that whatever the circumstances, I will
respond to your calls and answer your texts

You asked me if I loved you, what I felt for you - I

said I love you like no one in this world. I
confessed my love to you that is pure and
appreciative, a love that will blossom forever, a
love that will make you smile whenever I texted
you.

You asked me if I care, if I could do anything for

you - I said, not the whole world could carry the
care thats in my heart for you

You asked me who I am to you, if I was just a

dream - I assured you that I am real, I am your real
and true friend. You're a friend who is precious and whom I cherish

From all this I gained the world

All I got is your smiles and pure love

The beauty in your eyes and the joy of the voice in
your heart
All I enjoyed were your texts and lovely wishes
I am thankful that you're all I got
Thank you my dear rose
All I got is a beautiful angel, a sweet rose
Thanks for being my friend

KENYAN FOOTBALL GOES SEXY

They say; it is only a game. But, while in the past only a sprinkling of hardcore female fans turned up for matches; more women are now taking to the stands, painting something else.
There is a popular belief with many that the 1970s and 80s were the golden and glory period of Kenyan football.

One cannot rewind the 1980s without feeling they were a black and white period. Who saw the blue zebra of Ingwe then? The forest green of K’ogalo? There was all the shouting and fond nick names back then; but who can equate them with the passion that has been marking the premier league season; especially in 2012?

One thing the 80s lack is the glam our women have brought to the stands. With them; they have brought more that a touch of color and glamour to the game.

So; it would be a befitting tribute to go to the one place throughout the season that never disappoints- the stands! This time; we take a depth of field view on our ardent female football fans.

THE INGWELETS AND INGWE LADIES…

They are the back-support of AFC Leopards. Ingwelets ( named after AFC nickname “Ingwe” that means a cheetah in Luhya) was officially launched on September 1, 2012; Boasting of vast networks of branches countywide.

The Ingwe Ladies; a rival group; are affiliated to the club of Leopards Active and Wise Supporters (CLAWS) Trust.

Ingwe Ladies’ main objective is to increase the number of female supporters of the club and leave a positive impact in the community.

The ladies have a website- www.ingweladies.org and run an active Facebook page.

THE K’OGALO DIVAS…

The group was founded in 2010 and is arguably the most colorful football ladies in the history of the local game. Referred to as the “queens” of Kenyan football; founder members include, Adumi Gyan Mamayao (Divas president); Judith (Vice President); Lorna Loarn (Treasurer) and Roselinder Achieng (Programmes’s and Communications coordinator).

Other key notable figures responsible for Divas success are Naima Messa Ferrari; Leah Gondi and Lady Treazer.

Last year saw the group’s founder Roselinder Achieng elected as Deputy Secretary General for Gor Mahia executive board.

THE SUGAR BABES…

Sofapaka boast of a massive fan base both locally and all over East Africa.

Amidst all the song and glamour from the stands; there is a group of stylish ladies; who have always kept the beat alive and motivated the boys on the pitch.

Little is known about the dedicated so-called Sugar Babes; who fro 90 minutes of active play spend their time singing and dancing to the Lingala tunes of the Sofapaka Band.

ULINZIRESS…

Not until recently; Ulinzi F.C ; the football club of the Kenya Defense Forces; has unveiled a female base; which is significantly represented in the capital; despite the club being a Nakuru based.

The Ulinziress Chairlady Olga Eglyne Otunga has nothing but praise for the boys; terming them the most disciplined players. Ulinzi boasts also of the most disciplined fans.

TUSKER QUEENS...

Nothing is known about the flamboyant Tusker Queens who support Tusker F.C. their yellow and black jerseys on the stands has become a notable feature especially during big games pitting their team.

For many years; Kenyan fans have been known for their annoying habit of armchair beer swirling. But that is slowly coming to an end.

With our beautiful ladies doubling in the stands to catch a glimpse of the beautiful game; they are truly debunking the macho myth of football being the passion of men only.

GRAFFITTI ART AT JKIA

They say that art; of any form; whether fine art; photography or even graffiti; is a visual form of expression- the best format and way to convey a message to a larger audience.

With that in mind; think of the large traffic that goes through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
I recently was there and had a chance to sample the “Spray for Change” peace campaign that was commissioned by Dura coat Paints.

This different type of peace campaign; launched at the Nairobi based airport; involves 10 graffiti artists sharing their visions of a new Kenya on individually allocated 400 meters of corrugated sheets around a construction-site at the airport.

The two-day project had a selection of Nairobi’s top graffiti artists- Bankslave, Wisetwo, Esen, Swift9, Tyso, Uhuru B ,Smokilah, Shan, Felok and Kerosh- create vibrant creations with everything from tribal masks, city skyline to images of empower ordinary citizens.

Swift 9; whose panel includes a hulking figure of athlete David Rudisha; explains the inspiration behind his choice;
“Rudisha represents Kenya’s sports and athletics. Everybody rejoices when Kenya wins, no matter where you are in the country. It unites us.”

All the panels will be up for the next 6 to 8 months and once construction at the JKIA site is completed; Dura coat plans to store the panels as works of art.
But before then; a cash prize and paint for a community initiative of one of the graffiti artist’s selection; totaling KES 250,000 is up for grabs. A competition running on http://sprayforchange.com will reward the artist who garners the most votes for his superb artwork.

The project was filmed and documented as it took place in the hope that it will serve to promote the artists; the country and the voice of a new generation to Kenyans and the world at large.
