REMEBERING ERIC LIDDELL- AN INSPIRATION FOR LONDON OLYMPICS 2012

REMEBERING ERIC LIDDELL- AN INSPIRATION FOR LONDON OLYMPICS 2012

“God honors they that honor him”- 1 st Samuel 2:30

E
RIC HENRY LIDELL was immortalized in the Oscar Award Winning movie “Chariots Of Fire”. During the 1924 Paris Olympics, committed Christian Eric Liddell refused to race on Sunday and was forced to withdraw from the 100 meters, his best event.

Instead, Liddell, a Scottish, raced in the 400 meters and little was expected of him of course. As Liddell went on the starting blocks for the race, an American masseur sipped a piece of paper in his hand with the quotation from 1st Samuel 2:30; “those who honor me I will honor.” Liddell ran with that piece of paper in his hand and not only won the race, but broke the existing world record with a time of 47.6 seconds.

-          he was nicknamed “ the flying Scotsman”
-          His performance in the 400 meters in Paris stood as a European record for 12 years.

THE NEW GENERATION THAT WILL REVOLUTIONISE AFRICA…

THE NEW GENERATION THAT WILL REVOLUTIONISE AFRICA

I
Read somewhere of how an attorney husband was always fond of saying, “when the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on your side, pound the podium.”
The podium pounding is usually for our leaders here in Africa when neither facts nor law is on their side. Since I am a patriot with charisma, I will pound the facts.
Robbery is antisocial- a proven determination to break the law. But just so you think of the many men and women who are busy breaking or bending the law in all coasts of climes.
After all these, these so called men and women provide an alibi. Look for a copy of one of the Daily. You’ll be shocked to find there is a story of the government official who stole over ksh 7m cool. But that’s not new. Such stories make splash headlines all over our African continent while on the other hand; stories of how people are making a difference in our poor slums only get a caption.
The government official was antisocial, but how many of his type do you know? And how many more go undetected? I say, if my avocation was antisocial, then thank God, I’m in good company. And that company consists of countries, Trans -national organizations, public servants, high and low men and women.
The only difference is that I’m prepared to pay the price for it all, the others are not.
It’s about time well-endowed and well-trained people took to it. They’ll bring to the profession a romantic benefit to the society.
No. I’m not mad. On the contrary, my heart is at peace. Time was when the running and ruining of African nations was in the hands of half-literate politicians. Today, well-endowed and better-trained people have taken over the task and look how well they’re doing it.

ONLY IN AFRICA: “AFRICA KILLS HER SUN”

ONLY IN AFRICA: “AFRICA KILLS HER SUN”
I recall many years ago as a young child, reading in a newspaper of an African leader who stood on the grave of a dead lieutenant and through his tears said; “Africa kills her sons”.
I don’t know what he meant by that, and though I have thought about it long enough, I’ve not been able to unravel the full mystery of those words.
Indeed, we have painted the picture of a continent where one cannot be able to make it in life. Our young, innovative, talented and educated generation now believes that Europe, America or anywhere else is the only place they can achieve.
From talented world class soccer players to our beautiful models, the story is no different. Shocking enough, at this year’s Euro 2012 games, France alone has 9 players with roots of descend to Africa.
What if we had taken time to invest on our own and build our own? Now, today, this very moment, the African leader’s words come flooding back to me. And I want to borrow from him- a proposal for the epitaph of the great men of our African society- “Africa kills her sun.”
That is why I am sure, you will agree with me is to why she had been described as the Dark Continent.

ONLY IN AFRICA: “THE PAINTING DILEMMA”

ONLY IN AFRICA: “THE PAINTING DILEMMA”

You must have seen or heard in the internet, social media sites and in the media platform as a whole, how the world laughed at him. The satire it generated goes beyond words. We all laughed comfortably at his gaucherie and plain stupidity.
“The spear” or “umkhonto” in Sotho. That’s the name the white painter saw fit to describe his painting that exposes president Zuma’s penis. The president himself termed it disrespectful and one that impunes him as a womanizer. The clergy men termed it as disrespect to African culture and that the artist should be torched to death. But facts prove otherwise don’t they? Mr. President, if I was your lawyer, I would have advised you to remain mum. How many people go to art galleries if you come to think of it? Your line of defense is shaky and one that can be argued and proven guilty with a smirk on our faces at the courtroom due to the facts of your numerous public display of wives and girlfriends.
What would happen if a major art gallery showed a painting of Barrack Obama or the Queen with their genitals hanging out? Is it even likely? But this is Africa! The unfeeling continent.
I bet though, the president himself will never forget. He must remember it the rest of his life even as his own nation salves their conscience with more bottles of beer and with their many unanswered questions, they will end up discussing in the safety of their homes, watching the cheap TV programmes- the rejects of America and Europe, imported to fill their vacuity.
I watched poor old Zuma closely and I can’t describe the shock and disbelief which was registered on his face. Even as the government, the artist and the art gallery owner came into a compromise to have the painting removed, it was with difficulty he regained composure.
Ironically, the art gallery, termed the “fete of thief”, rumor has it that a German tycoon bought the painting for $ 10,000. Quite a lot of money compared to the fact that the penis size was 10 inches so I guess 100 bucks for every inch…I will leave you to do the math!

OVERCOMING SEXUAL ADDICTIONS, A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE…

last week we did a story on...

16 signs you could be a sex addict

Sex addiction is a real problem suffered quietly by those who know they’d be branded “freaks of nature” if people found out about their condition. This addiction can involve many different sexual behaviors that may be either strong urges to have sex, masturbate, watch porn, or even flirt!
You know you are a sex addict when your behavior on the above mentioned gets out of control such that it gets in your way of living a normal life and impacts negatively on you.  When these feelings are accompanied by denial, confusion, hopelessness and shame then honey, you may just be a sex addict.
So signs that could mean you are a sex addict are:
#1 You often feel a compulsion to have sex and are always thinking about sex.
#2 You can do anything to get “some” even if it means getting into prostitution or picking up prostitutes just for a quick fix.
#3 You obsess so much about sex such that you have a collection of sex toys and sex items and those are the most important belongings you possess.
#4 You secretly know that your obsession with sex is a problem and that it is wrong!
#5 You often feel the urge to partake in ‘abnormal’ sexual acts like “threesomes, foursomes” and you love to watch actual people having sex.
#6 You have a mpango wa kando ( a side dish chic apart from your chic) whose main role is to satisfy your sexual needs.
#7 Sex plays a major role in the fights you have with your significant other
#8 You keep your sex life very private. PS: It is normal to talk about sex in general and about your sex life to at least your best friend.
#9 You feel compelled to have several sexual partners for the sake of variety and to fulfill your fantasies
#10 You cheat your way out…not by only sleeping around but also by frequenting strip clubs, watching a lot of porn, going to x-rated movie theaters and having phone sex with strangers on a regular basis…such that it interferes with your relationships and work.
#11 You see everybody as a potential sex partner and you don’t see anything wrong with partaking in sex with unsuitable people such as people who are underage.
#12 You love sex so much you wouldn’t care to use protection with your many sexual partners. When it comes to sex, your judgement is clouded.
#13 Sex has gotten you into trouble …you participate in phone sex during working hours, watching porn at work, looking at pornographic material instead of doing something that will be more helpful to you…
#14 You have gotten into legal trouble because of sex more than once.
#15 You are often left feeling a sense of shame and guilt after a sexual encounter which you initiated.
#16 Your mind is just preoccupied by all things sex…constantly looking for sex filled stuff. While watching occasional porn could be considered “normal” a sex filled day…meaning watching porn the whole day is quite abnormal.
All the above boil down to one thing… that you cannot CONTAIN yourself when it comes to sex hence letting it become a problem. However, you have the power to say no to sex addiction… and that is by accepting your condition first which will then allow you to get some much needed help.

NB. next week we try to answer these questions...
am sex addict I don't know how to do?
So am a sex addict, wea do i get help?
an article on how to control would help

OVERCOMING SEXUAL ADDICTIONS, A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE…

v     NOTE that self control is not a matter of one’s will; it is infact, a fruit of the Holy Spirit working in us. ( Gal. 5v22)
v     What a merciful God we have and serve! As we learn to depend more and more on God to see us through each day, and we become more aware of His presence, moment by moment we find that over time, the magnet of sexual sin loses its strength.
v     Continual prayer- a communion of Daddy God and son is very important to your recovery. It is the Christian’s greatest weapon against sin nature and the dangers and temptations of this world.
v     The power of fasting too! Never neglect this! Great people like David, Ezra, Esther and Moses, after taking a fast, saw spiritual power.
v     Reading and memorizing scriptures is an overlooked weapon by many Christians. It should be in your arsenal. Memorize James 1:14 and 1st Corinthians 10:13 and quote them when tempted. Make Psalms 51 your own personal prayer. DON’T forget to read the Bible regularly.
v     DON’T let your sin-shame become one of Satan’s weapons to keep you trapped. Secrecy is often a Christian’s biggest enemy, while confession can bring freedom and release from bondage of an overwhelming sense of shame.
v     DON’T let your pride destroy you. If no one knows of your personal moral failures, there is no one to be accountable to, or to help lift you up in prayer or encourage you. DON’T let pride destroy you.
v     In an interview with Easy FM, Pastor Cathy Kiuna of Jubilee Christian Church in Kenya, said that most young people today are having sex not physically but in their minds. Contact internet accountability services providers from organizations like covenanteyes.net to help in internet porn. Internet filters offer maximum protection for children and adults.
v     Change of habits will do wonders to avoid sin. Avoid streets with prostitutes or that cause you to lust when you drive through. Avoid the internet when your spouse goes to bed.
v     Stephen Arterburn in his book “Every Man’s Battle”; talks about retraining the eyes to “bounce away” from visual things that stimulate lust in you. For us men, this might mean you need to look away soon as you see a scantily dressed female jogger. Don’t fuel your lust. Avert your eyes from temptations and don’t look back. A good habit can be formed in around 2 weeks. Keep bouncing your gaze away, and remarkable improvement can be noticed rather quickly.
v     Destroy all porn materials in your possessions (make no provision for your flesh- Romans 13:14). Stop feeding the fire.
v     If some friendships cause too much temptation, severe those relationships.

FIBROIDS: AFRICA’S SILENT INVASION…PART 2

FIBROIDS: AFRICA’S SILENT INVASION…PART 2
AT RISK?
  1. Fibroids are most common from the age of 30, all the way to menopause. After menopause, they usually shrink away, becoming harmless.
  2. If your mother had fibroids (or indeed any blood relative), the chances of you suffering too increases threefold.
  3. Did you know that fibroids are 3- times more likely to occur in women of African descent than Caucasians? The reason why is still baffling scientists.
  4. For overweight women, the risk of developing fibroids is between 2 and 3 times higher than women who are not obese.
  5. Research shows that women who consume lots of red meat are more at risk of fibroids. Conversely, consuming plenty of green veg, fruits and fresh fish is thought to lower the risk of developing fibroids.
