LUPITA NAMED WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

#LUPISTAR

I once wrote on this same platform that destiny has it we will talk and write about the Oscar award winner Lupita Nyong’o for quite some time.
She once made some remarks that “she never dreamed she would be praised for her looks.” Well, destiny and fate had something else in store, as the actress was last Wednesday named as the World’s most beautiful woman for 2014 by People magazine- and also landed on the cover of the weekly magazine.

Although she first equated beauty with television images of light skin and long straight hair, Nyong’o said her mother always told her she was beautiful.
Speaking to Reuters, she added, “and I finally believed her at some point.” The announcement sparked a lot of debate in Kenya on social media with many criticizing women who do weaves and wigs. #TEAMFARASI was used in the discussion. It seemed to hit a lot of the women who are into weaves and wigs especially in Kenya.

This year’s most beautiful people list also included actress Keri Russell; Jenna Dewan-Tatum; Mindy kaling and Amber Heard. Pop singer Pink, actresses Gabrielle Union; Molly Sims and Kerry Washington, and model and former professional wrestler Stacy Keibler also made annual ranking.

The circus that is campus elections

#DAYSTAR DECIDES 2014-2015

Campus elections are indeed a circus. Not any more or less better than the national politics. You can take this from me, because I once vied for a student leadership post on my first year of joining campus- talk of ambition!

And finally this past week, it emerged that some seats are still vacant; with no students coming out to vie. Social welfare, international students’ representative (ISADU) and the sports dockets are all vacant.

There are several factors that lead to this unfortunate state of affairs. First of all; Daystar is keen on chapel attendance; GPA cut and other DUSA constitution requirements for one to vie.

Just this past Wednesday, the candidates who will be battling at the ballot presented their manifestos. This baraza is a clown’s pastime in my view. You may say this point is myopic but here is why!

Any campaign to be what it is, it begins from a far. Any student leader will tell you it is all an investment. An insulting amount of money is used and this is recovered once one makes it to the ‘big office.’

Any election is a bid! Some say any election is won way ahead before the actual voting day. The truth in this statement is a story for another day.
But the funniest part of this circus is that the losing candidates are the first to complain about the unfairness of the process.

If the boot was on the other foot, if they had won the bid, the franchise would be free and fair in their eyes.
Don’t forget Monday the April, Daystar University, Nairobi Campus goes to the polls! We decide…

Kenyan hip hop community needs to save Johnny Vigeti

#investigative

He became a topic of discussion a few weeks ago on 89.5- Ghetto Radio. DJ Prince was hosting Ukoo Flani’s Sharama and he brought up the issue of what he had investigated on Johnny Vigeti
A respected and honorable rapper amongst many in the Hip-Hop circles; Johnny was one of the pioneers of Kenyan hip-hop with Roba and  kama, the latter who is abroad and has seen the jail more times than one, with drug addiction said to be the problem.

When Vigeti rhymed; “…Niko Na home nyingi kushinda ma-boys wa Mike Rabar in the hip hop classic piga bao…” he did not have the jail in mind.

“Every little penny he gets is spent on acquiring drugs,” said a member of Ukoo Flani of the artiste, who was recently bailed out of Industrial Area Prison. The same sentiments were confirmed by DJ Prince.

The above cases may sound chilling, but only goes ahead to prove that our adored stars are equally vulnerable to the ills that rock everyone in the society- reckons The Pulse Pullout.
