NYOTA NDOGO TAKES ON MUSTAPHA AGAIN AFTER THIS CRAZY PIC

It's official, Nyota Ndogo has lost her small mind. This babe organized a protest against Moustapha ati he's insulted women including his own mother coz of that infamous pic akidara Huddah down low! /o\

The whole protest made the news bana>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o89pRWhGQdc<Yaani Coasto mamas have so much free time they even made placards and ish? /o\

Nyota's warning to Coasto artists: Don't post nudes or provocative pics on the internets yaani in a language they understand, Msiweke picha za uchi kwenye mitandao! - Jeremy Odhiambo
Moustapha is finally relevant again. Relevant as a living example of what you should not do to stay relevant.

He tried the Tujuane avenue & came off as the King of Thirst. Then he had a shoot with Huddah & claimed they were bumping uglies!

When Huddah called him out for the fake relationship, saying he wasn't in her class na hawesmek, Moustapha resorted to crying in his Coasto swahili "Kama Mtu hayuko class yako mbona mnapigaje picha ukiwa sindiria? Mboona hukupiga na watu wengine?” Woi! - Jeremy Odhiambo

THE ART OF MAKING GOOD PIZZA

360 Artisans Pizza is not just a clever name. These are people who take the Artisan in their brand very seriously; to such an extent that they sent two of their chefs to Napoli to learn at the feet of the master himself, EnzoCoccia. Just hearing his name makes you think of somebody who’s really, really good at making pizza. And he is. In fact he is the owner of one of the top pizzerias in Napoli called La Motizzia (The Muse). If you are not impressed by this, you should have a talk with the Executive Chef from 360 Artisan Pizza, Joy Marambii, about why you should be.
“It was amazing. Napoli is an artisan town where craftsmanship is very respected. Being a florist, a butcher, or a pizza maker, and being the best at it, demands a lot of respect in Napoli,” she says. She spent four weeks together with EnzoCoccia learning how to cook the traditional Neapolitan pizza. “The pizza has to be made from double zero flour, the water has to be from Napoli, you have to use sea salt and special olive oil. It has to be made in a brick oven built with volcanic rock, and you have to use the right firewood. It’s really and art form,” says Joy.
Though there is a very strict tradition in Napoli’s pizzerias, Enzo is a modern chef who experiments with style and ingredients. Something that goes went down well with the 360 Artisan Pizza chefs who are dishing out pizza’s like House-Made Spicy Lamb Sausage with Romesco Pesto, Roasted Zucchini and Mint; and the Roasted Cauliflower & Pancetta with Fontal Cheese and Red Chili.
Though these are mouth-watering toppings, Joy has a very firm believe in what really makes the difference between being good and being great. “The perfect pizza begins with the perfect doe. The perfect crust. If you don’t get the crust right it doesn’t matter what you put on it.”

THE BLUES RESTAURANT- A REVIEW

Most regulars at the famous Blues Restaurant describe their first time there as serendipity; they were passing in a car, or stopping for some fries near Hurlingham centre when the sound of a guitar solo rose out of the night like a dream in the night and beckoned them closer. There are pieces of stained glass art welcoming you into the wooden comfortably cozy space, and images of Miles Davis, John Coltrane among blues legends look out at you from the walls. Softly, speakers spill out the sweet sounds of the blues as the band sets up in a space to the front of the room.
Forging and spreading the rhythm and spirit of the blues in Kenya, the Blues Restaurant, located in in the serene enclave of Hurlingham centre is dedicated to great food and heart racing blues. Lovers of blues legends like B. B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson will find no other place in Nairobi with such dedication to the concept of blues as presented by the talented restaurant Band every Friday from 8:00 p.m. The members of the band are as fluid in performance as the genre is in style, with guest guitarists, saxophonists, and harmonica players as well as other musical professionals joining the band on stage each week to electrify audiences with dazzling blues renditions.
George Dyer hailing from Portland Maine brought his diverse collection of blues songs to Nairobi and for six months filled The Blues with Delta, Texas, and Chicago bluesas well as Blues rock and the New Orleans shuffle. The few short months he spent at The Blues elevated the status of the restaurant to one now identified as having the best blues in Kenya. His bold gift continues in the hearts of the many musicians he touched and collaborated with as the great tradition continues with racy blues every Friday night. All blues lovers need look no further for great food, a chill time and a night of heart stopping blues.

TAKING KENYAN FASHION TO THE GLOBAL RUNWAY

“Loky had in him something many people did not have, a great work ethic. I mean, he used to wake up early to source fabric and was consistently developing new ideas,” says Papa Petit, stylist and close friend to Blackbird Jeans’ founder and co-owner, Loky Zee. We can attest to his early rises from when we caught up with him from New York in the wee hours of the morning. “You’ve got to be invested 110%,” he says “otherwise don’t waste your time.” These valuable words, applicable to all start-ups, sums up Loky’s drive which – together with his talent and charm – has catapulted the 24 year old into the ranks of fast rising designers worldwide.
Blackbird Jeans was Kenya’s most exciting fashion start-up of 2008 and now the company has spread its wings to USA where it has established itself as an popular innovative brand. Blackbird Jeans pioneered fashion firsts in the Kenyan fashion scene with prints on the back pockets of denim pants, cubism on shirts, and the ‘drop crotch’ style that became the Blackbird Jeans’ signature. Helen Jennings, fashion guru said in 2012 that these are the designers to watch and she was not wrong. Last year Blackbird Jeans had 12 shows in 12 states in the USA and dressed the Fela Kuti cast in LA. The fast rising star, Loky Zee, talks to us from New York where he is honing his skills at Alexander Nash, a bespoke fashion studio from which he styles the who’s who of the Hollywood A-List including Michael K. Williams, star of ‘the Wire’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and the remake of ‘Robocop’ that premiered earlier this year.
As early as their school days Loky and his partner, Sydney were aware of style. “He’s from Mombasa, I’m from Eldoret. It didn’t matter that we wore school uniforms, he would come with his type of shoes and I would come with mine and we would appreciate each other’s styles,” Loky reminisces. Creating clothes came naturally and drawn to creating clothes, he started at Obadi Wear, a jeans factory in Nakuru as a floor man where he fell in love with the sewing machine. Believing that there was more in store for him, he moved to Nairobi. “I knew I wanted to take the fashion experience to a new level,” he says of his decision to move. Loky took  to selling juice to make ends meet and immersing himself in spirituality; fasting and praying to God to make his dreams a reality. In 2010 he had finally saved up enough money to purchase a sewing machine of his own. He began slowly making unique designs that he felt filled a vacuum in the Kenyan fashion scene.
His journey did not lack obstacles and challenges one of which was reluctance of his family to accept his line of work. “Back then, in Kenya, you could not tell your parents that you wanted to be a tailor,” he tells us, “that’s what they would call it. They’d talk about how they put you through school and that designing clothes would be a waste of that education.” It took dedication, belief in his talent, and a stern belief that this was a path God chose for him, to carry him through those trying times. He laughs as he speaks of a conversation with his pastor about his dream to travel to the United States of America and his pastor asks him how he makes a living to which he replies, “I make clothes.” The pastor advises him, “That is what God wants you to do.” Taking Kenyan Fashion to the Global Runway
Through the buzz created by his eccentric take on the drop crotch and cubism inspired shirts, Loky was invited to Straight Up which had a domino effect for Blackbird Jeans. With more celebrities such as Resian Labai and Allan Namu wearing his clothes, his profile rose substantially. Shortly after his media appearance, Loky was called to dress Sauti Sol at Blankets & Wine. Not stopping there, Loky was given a slot at the African Fashion Week in New York on the same year. Unfortunately, his funds were not sufficient to cover the travel costs and all his proposals for sponsorship were in vain. “We had to sell all the sewing machines and equipment in our studio. I remember when it was our time to showcase and I knew we came in as underdogs.” Their collection was met with praise for their attention to detail and unique interpretation of African fashion.
As a designer in USA he has faced a different challenge. “This is a bigger and daunting market,” he says “and as a man of color, you are faced with more to prove.” His new collection and his self belief have proved to be up to the task.
To up-coming designers, Loky advises, “If you’re not invested and you launch something flimsy and in a hurry, it will have repercussions.” It is clear that it is a passion that touches every part of his life and we hope to

ELECTRAFIQUE MARCH PARTY ANOTHER SUCCESS

We attended the third edition of this year’s monthly concerts/parties hosted by Electrafrique at the Simba Saloon last Saturday (March 22nd). As usual, the party animals came out to dance to the carefully selected electronic beats fused in African sounds, by the DJs behind the collective. Another ever-fresh aspect of the show is the fusing of live music mixes and The Beat Parade Band, a live band that plays traditional instruments and percussions. From around 10:00 p.m. the party went on till 5 in the morning and it was very hard to leave the dance floor during these times. April edition is already looking good, if the raving reviews are anything to go by. Good job Electrafrique and Nairobians for embracing this city’s latest cool sound.

LUPITA TO STAR IN ‘STAR WARS’ &’THE WHOLE TRUTH’ DRAMA SERIES

#LUPISTAR

The Oscars’ aftermath for Lupita Nyong’o could just be the beginning of bigger, better things and roles in Hollywood.
Already, even before the applause could fade; talk is rife since last week that Lupita could star in a blockbuster – yes, The Star Wars episode seven.

Even before the Oscar Sunday, Lupita had already met with Star Wars Director J.J Abrams for auditions for a role consideration as a non-Caucasian descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The epic series is set in galaxy far, far away, in the past.

Citing anonymous sources, recently, Forbes Magazine critic and Hollywood reporter, Alex knop has also indicated that Lupita is being considered for a high profile role of Tiger Lily in Warner Brothers Pan. And the list includes a role in The Whole Truth; a courtroom drama series starring Daniel Craig

From our desk; we wish Lupita all the best!

15TH HEINEKEN MINGLE; ERIC OMONDI’S NAKED SHOW; KENYA KITE FESTIVAL; ELECTRAFIQUE

#254events-wassup

Sat-22nd march 2014

As an events writer and blogger; what do you do when you have over three great events on your weekend diary? Well, that is what this past weekend had in store for me. March so far has been a fabulous month. Probably the stature of this month’s events prove the rest of the year will be even better and entertaining-exactly what we love about the #254 and Nairobi a s a whole.

Starting off at The Impala; the popular bi-monthly social outdoor and networking event, the 15th Heineken Mingle brought al the traffic to the Ngong’ Road grounds.
For fashion enthusiasts; here we met colourful urban Nairobians. Plenty of interactive games, networking and a mature crowd were all brought together by this event. Truth The Band made the night a cozy one- add to that al the sorts of instruments and their great voices.
The entertainment lineup that kept the crowd all night up on their feet included DJS crème; protégé; Nijo; Gichboy; Seanizelll and Mwai; presided over by hype MC Martin Kariuki.

From mingling and networking to one-mic standup comedy; and comedian Eric Omondi hosted The Naked Show at Carnivore Grounds.
This was one-of-a kind show backed by Safaricom, Mo sound and Standard Group amongst other sponsors. One and half hours of uninterrupted jokes; he chose to focus on ladies; the clubbing scene and everything trending; including a look alike Lupita Nyong’o Oscar moment.

Back to Ngong’ Road; and this year’s popular Kenya Kite Festival went down at Nairobi Polo Club. And yes, the picnic –themed event was all about kiting competitions and plenty of drinks and refreshments and great delicacies.

Electrafiques March Party was the mother of all. Kenya’s coolest DJ collective fusing electronic music with authentically African sounds did not disappoint. The third concert at The Carnivore grounds saw the Urban mixed crowd welcome DJ Cortega back from West Africa.

Kenya’s Beat Parade; backed by Electrafiques DJS and hosted by Hot 96 Coco D Rasta literally rocked the event and made it a night to remember.
