Narrow escape for Prezzo

the nation reports...

PHOTO | COURTESY Goldie from Nigeria and Prezzo from Kenya.

Kenya's contestant in the Big Brother Africa Stargame, Prezzo, escaped eviction during the Sunday Live eviction show. However, his girlfriend, Goldie, from Nigeria, was sent home in a night of anxiety for Kenyan reality show lovers.

The show's host IK first told Kyle and Lady May that they were safe and was left with Prezzo and Goldie. He asked the two love birds if they would give up the show for each other. Both answered in the affirmative. However, voters in Africa had decided that Goldie was the better sacrifice.
While on stage Goldie was satisfied with her performance and said she had done her best in the house. "Nobody should look at me as a disappointment to my country, I did my best to represent it fully," she said.
A Kenyan now has a possible chance of bagging the $300,000 (Sh25 million) ultimate prize, since Prezzo and Alex are still in the house. Last week, one of Kenya's contestants, Malonza, was evicted.

I wish both Prezo and Goldie the best. But the idea of Kenyans blindly acting as copy cats is irritating, especially if it is true that they celebrate halloween. In America, halloween has a significant history that they relate with. How do Kenyans relate to a tradition and culture that is not part of their history. How on earth do people who celebrate halloween in Kenya explain it, especially to their children? We do not want to submit ourselves to distortion. Americans for one can not lend themselves to create a holiday for tero buru for example. It can not just happen. So why should Kenyans subsribe to halloween? on what historical criteria? on what cultural basis?

The other two Kenyans who were in the show, Alex and Malonza, were evicted.
Earlier on Sunday during the nomination diary session, Prezzo told Big Brother that he was proud to have made it to the final week.
He said that he was proud of carrying Kenya’s flag even higher and that it would be a blessing for him to reach the finals.
Six contestants now remain in the house. They are Prezzo, Kyle, Lady May, Keagan from South Africa and Zambia’s Talia.

                          • Hello Dear
Good day, Please forgive me if i am a disturbance to you,it is only that i have something important to discuss with you, Although we have not known each other before,But after praying and seeking God's Directives,I decided to contact you, and also from the inspirations that i had from God, i believed that you will not fail me, and that through you, i will get the assistance needed.

However, My name is Miss.Esther John,I am 24years;from Sudan; daughter to late Mr John.Garang (Southern South First Leader)who was officially appointed first vice-president - a position he held for only three weeks before he was killed in a helicopter crash. After the burial of my father, my uncle conspired and sold my father's properties to one Chinese Expatriate and live nothing for me. One faithful morning, I opened my father's briefcase and found out the documents which he have deposited huge amount of money in one bank with my name as the next of kin. I escaped to Senegal to seek asylum, for my security, because i am not save with my uncle.

I have made contact with the bank where the money is deposited,in their responds, they told me that my father's instruction to the bank was the money to be released to me only when I am married or present a trustee who will help me and invest the money overseas, coupled with the refugee law of Senegal that prevented a refugee from handling anything money. So I am in search of;an honest, reliable person who will help me and stand as my trustee/partner,so that I will present him to the Bank for transfer of the money to his bank account overseas.

Though you may wonder why I am so soon revealing myself to you without knowing you, well, I will say that my mind convinced me that you are the true person to help me. More so,I would like to disclose much to you if you can help me to relocate to your country because my uncle have threaten to assassinate me. The amount is $4.5 Million. You will also help me to place the money in a more profitable business venture in your Country. However, you will help by recommending a nice University in your country so that I can complete my studies.

As soon as I receive your interest in helping me, I will put things into action immediately, by nominating you officially to the bank; In light of the above, I shall appreciate an urgent message indicating your ability and willingness to handle this transaction sincerely. Please do keep this only to your self. I beg you not to disclose it till i come over because I am afraid of my wicked uncle who has threatened to kill me
                            Yours Esther

THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO THE EARLIER PIECE ON “SEX AUNTIES ON TV- IS KENYA READY FOR THIS?”

Teenage mothers in Cameroon learn about reproductive health

Sex aunties have been with us since time immemorial. In many African communities, girls who are ready for marriage are often given talks which focus on their obligations and how to satisfy their husbands.
Among the Baganda of Uganda, sexual initiation of young women is done by a “Ssenga”- usually an aunt of the girl (or a symbolic woman), whose role is to tutor young women on various sexual matters. The young women are taught how to enhance their lovemaking skills, erotic stimulation, marriage preparation and also about various lovemaking noises.
In southern Malawi, young initiate girls are gathered together for about a week and taught about sexual matters, with the major emphasis being on how to sexually please a man. The second stage of initiation happens when the girl attains sexual maturity and begins her menses. During this initiation, an egg is sometimes placed in her vagina so that she can get a sense of what sex might feel like.
In the Bemba community of Zambia, girls who begin their menses are usually secluded for a few days to a month. During this time, an older woman (chosen by the specific girls’ parents), instructs and tests the ability of the teenagers to perform the “Cimwangalala” dance- a dance that every Bemba woman is expected to know. Sexual hygiene, motherhood, marriage, sex and how to please a man are topics that never miss on the menu.

THE KENYA-TANZANIA CONNECTION;- KISWAHILI SLANG FINDS A HOME IN KENYA.
NAIROBI KENYA- Now “Nairobians” ( people from Nairobi as they refer to themselves in their circles) have welcomed the use of swahili slang. Ever since Bongo music from Tanzania found its way in FM stations, then Nairobi and the whole of Kenya has taken up the new slangs from Tanzania. From radio stations to TV-shows and now even the streets.
There is also the influence of the Swahili slang from Mombasa Kenya and now it seems that “ sheng”- the streets slang that originates from the Nairobi ghetto may be facing extinction. But that remains to be seen. One thing with slangs is that they appreciate one another despite location difference- one can find words in Tanzanian slang used in Kenyan “sheng” and vice versa!
Today we travel to Tanzania to bring you some popular street slangs…
