“MOSI YI TUNYA”- AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG 3 MONTH ANNIVERSARY…

“MOSI YI TUNYA”- AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG 3 MONTH ANNIVERSARY…
Picture this! Standing by the shores of the Zambezi River in Livingstone, Zambia. Ahead of you, steam rising from the ground and a rumble that can only be heard from a far, as the earth vibrates slightly due to the force of the ravaging river.
This is one place in my “bucket list” I am trusting God to visit one day. The locals here call it “mosi yi tunya”- “the smoke that thunders”.
To the rest of us, this has been told, re- told, learnt, “goggled” and described as the Victoria Falls. To the locals here, it is “mosi yi tunya”, and that is what matters to them because it tells the story of the falls in their own way.
As a blog, we look forward to continuously giving you a blog that you will be proud of and one, like the famous “mosi yi tunya”, that tells your story your own way today and for many years to come.
“HAPPY 3- MONTH ANNIVERSARY AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG!”

AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG HITS 1000 VIEWS…

AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG HITS 1000 VIEWS…
July 25th 2012, will be on Wednesday. But it will not just be any other Wednesday. Your blog, African Hangout will be 3 months old.
From 2 guest views on the first day we began, I logged in last week on Friday and saw an entry of over 1000 views. It was probably 1, 045 views if I can recall.

Pageview chart 1180 pageviews - 86 posts, last published on 23-Jul-2012 - 2 followers

When I began this blog, I wanted it to be more than an info site. I wanted a chill spot for Africans and the world as a whole corporately, a place to come and “chillax” as my brother Christian likes to say.
A place to unwind and just read about the “mama land” and the rest of the world. So I thank you. All of you, for embarking on this journey with us.
This blog has no followers because this blog is more of a clique and a family. So, everything we do, we do it for the family. So kindly travel with us…

ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR OUR BLOG… LOOKING BACK AFTER 3 MONTHS SINCE WE BEGAN

ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR OUR BLOG… LOOKING BACK AFTER 3 MONTHS SINCE WE BEGAN

I once read somewhere that a society that moves forward without a pause and reflecting on where they have come from, then they is doomed. “40 brave souls for Christ”, that was our first post when we began this blog way back on May 25th 2012.
Now, forging forward, we pause to look back and reflect at what God has done ever since we began through our writings on this blog.
From just 2 page views when we first began, we now stand at an all time 828 page views and the number of visitors to our blog keeps growing by the day. I never dreamt I would have readers from other nations but to say the least we have nearly one reader from each continent and that is encouraging.
It is a humble start, but we have already been featured on international magazines (the Africa Report Magazine) and international website (API- African Press International). My thrill comes from knowing deep down my work is helping somebody else somewhere.
I am not focused on the outcome of my efforts. Results are not what motivate me. I am motivated by my inner awareness of having a heroic mission and staying with it, regardless of outcomes.
So, keep on reading as we promise you more writings on new issues and topics. Thanks for your support throughout. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AFRICAN HANGOUT BLOG

Saturday July 14th saw French Embassies around the world mark Bastille Day. This is a national holiday in celebration of the beginning of a new form of government to the French
Simply put, at one time in France, kings and queens ruled and the people were fed up with the decisions made by them.

The Bastille was a prison in France where the kings and queens often used to lock up the people who did not agree with their decisions.
For many French people, it was a symbol of all the corruption and misrule by the kings and queens. So, on July 14th 1789, a large number of French citizens gathered together and stormed the Bastille. So, the French celebrate the storming of the Bastille as the beginning of the French revolution.

“WE WANT MINI SKIRTS”- A SCHOOL STRIKES IN KENYA OVER MINI SKIRTS

“WE WANT MINI SKIRTS”- A SCHOOL STRIKES IN KENYA OVER MINI SKIRTS

Last week Rwathia Secondary School in Kangema Kenya, hit the media for all the wrong reasons. It was the topic of discussion over in the media circles, blogs and social media sites.
They found it best to strike because they claim that their school uniform is too long. It is difficult at this point in time to understand how the length of these girls’ skirts was affecting their academics but I will leave that to your imagination.
BLOGGER DISCLAIMER: I agree with a certain youth writer and columnist that strikes are more or less part of high school life. The high school strike fever is here, being 2nd term- the longest school calendar term. Strikes are polite picketing held by human right activists…they are inevitable.
From lack of adequate food, to a poor diet, to inadequate facilities, to poor teacher- student relationships… there will always be something our teens have against any educational system. The difference is in how it is expressed!
