constructing a railway line to open up East Africa’s interior; the notion was
met with derision by lawmakers deriding the project, with these famous words:
“What it will cost no words can express;
What is its object no brain can suppose; where it will start from no
one can guess;
Where it is going nobody knows; what the use of it is;
None can conjecture; what it will carry there’s none can define…and in
spite of George Curzon’s superior lecture; it clearly is naught a lunatic
line.”
Fast forward and 113 years later; the Kenya government is
embarking on another massive project- the standard railway gauge. We went on a
fun shoot to keep a memory of this vintage old shell of our history.
