2-DAY LUO FESTIVAL EAGERLY AWAITED…

#luofestival

It is here again- “ujaluo itatuua!” dubbed the “you only live once…live well” event, the much publicized Luo Festival will go down at the Carnivore Grounds on the 26th and 27th of April 2014.
And the stars are aplenty; if the line-up released is anything to go by. Amicus Luo; those called to be Luos and Luos at large and alike are set to be entertained by the crème d la crème of the Luo Community entertainers legion.

Hosted by Eric Omondi; Jalang’o; Otoyo, Owago Onyiro; Wilbroda and mc-Big Ted, the celebrations are going to be big. Dress code is strictly set to be all elegant and the best swag ever witnessed.
Sources have indicated that they are planning to bring president Obama and star-actress Lupita Nyong’o to grace what will turn out to be the biggest bash ever held.

Already I hear Toyota Proboxes will not be allowed around Carnivore; unless they are carrying repair tools for the Range Rovers; Hammers and Mercedes Benzes.

Forget The Oscars, folks. This is LUO FESTIVAL YAWA! And the storm is coming! Dongee!

GREAT HEARING YOU BACK ON RADIO FAYAH-MOMMA NJAMBI KOIKAI

#fayah

This past week I have been tuning into my radio to keep up with what is happening in the radio scene. It is amazing how things here in the radio scene change in a day. But remarkably was hearing the voice of “Fayah-Momma” Njambi Koikai back on radio. After her stint on Metro FM, now Venus FM, the last I heard from her was way back last year at a show alongside G-money, the Reggae Ambassador.

Her fresh voice alongside Mwafreeka on QFM every weekday afternoon, her Sundays evening show on Easy FM and QFM alongside DJ Usain Bolt, got me hooked and reminded me of my days listening to Metro fm.

Well, when we thought METRO FM HAD DIED, Njambi has brought reggae lovers once again on the same platform.
Faaaayaaaaah!!!!!!!

MR “N” MISS DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY SET FOR APRIL 25TH

#greatnights

Wanted the glitz? You got it. The glamour, lights, camera and action? It was there in abundance. Oh, last year, at a time like this, the stars were aplenty. When one says the “Mr. and miss Daystar” is one of the longest awaited Daystar University calendar events, they are not just blowing smoke.

Set last year at the prestigious Pride Inn Centre in Westlands and dubbed, ‘the Tipple B Awards’- Brilliance, Brains and Beauty, this year’s event goes down at the same venue. The dates have changed over time from 5th April to 12th and finally after the many postponements to the 25th of April 2014.

The ceremony, held annually in the January semester is everything anyone can wish for to honor the Nairobi Campus finest.

Sure, the Edward wanyoike’s social welfare and events committee dockets could use some lively strategies to heighten up the event and hype it, but we will take the poor strategies. Although there is need to keep the event lively and moving forward, or else, many comrades will pull away and fail to support the event as we have seen this semester with many calendar events.

But that would be asking for too much for a show that is just two year old. So, to Edward and team, you have everyone’s attention- and you can only fail if you want to!

GOVERNOR KIDERO’S SCORECARD ONE YEAR LATER

#one year later
mutuamatheka photography on Nairobi

The two bumped heads for the first time in January last year when they met for a national televised debate. Based on his grasp of factual and statistical knowledge, Dr Evans Kidero may have gotten the better of his opponent, but basing on the majority of social media websites then, analysts argued the populist appeal of Ferdinand Waititu might have won over the majority of the voters. Well, both representing different faces of the Nairobi populace, Kidero ended up at the big office.

“Traffic jams will be a thing of the past;” so said Dr Kidero in the much publicized TV duel. With many putting their hopes in Kidero, alas! A year in office and things seem to have remained the same, if not worse.
Nairobi is in perpetual standstill day and night. On average, a city resident will spend four hours a day in traffic. On average, that is a month in a year doing nothing. The World Bank estimates the daily clog costs sh 50 million.
A survivor’s manual for anyone visiting Nairobi is how to survive in traffic in sweltering heat and getting bullied by other motorists and pedestrians.

With various interventions that have been mooted and applied, none seems to have worked so far. Traffic lights do not work while the clueless traffic Marshalls introduced by the county government, almost brought the city to a standstill.
The new sheriff in town promised a lot in 100 days in office. To ensure cleanliness, orderliness, security, garbage collection, decongesting the city and control crime.
This unending gridlock has made Nairobi less friendly place to invest in with most offices exiting the city Centre.

The dream of turning Nairobi into a world-class city seems a ‘dream on paper.’

Although it is understandable that 12 months might be too short a time to expect any solution for a problem that goes back beyond the current city administration, “Nairobians voted overwhelmingly for me and they deserve a competent leader who will deliver a better life and city.” Not my words but Kidero’s.
