KENYA BUZZ : Press Release- RAHA APP

Press Release

New phone app set to change the social scene at Universities in Kenya

Kenya’s biggest events and lifestyle media, Kenyabuzz, has released a new phone application that is targeted towards students who want to know about and actively participate in the rapidly growing social scene on campus and around town.

Aptly named, ‘Kenyabuzz Raha’ with the slogan ‘fun at your fingertips’, the app gives its users the ability to:

· Search events by city and area, date, or type of event including- art exhibitions, festivals/craft fairs, films, kids events, live music events, nightlife, photography, fashion, sports, theater, dance, yoga/meditation, campus events and much more.

· Check the movie listings by movie or theater for all movie theaters throughout Kenya.

· Search for restaurants by city, area, or cuisine.

· Find other fun including bars and nightclubs, sightseeing spots, spas, casinos, recreation activities and other fun and interesting places in Kenya.

There are a lot of events that happen around the country that are free and open to the public. The app can help students to identify these events and enjoy them.

Students can also contribute to the content on the app by sending their favorite restaurants, hangout spots or events to editor@kenyabuzz.com if they are not already on the app.

“This is just the first version of the app”, says the director of Kenyabuzz Alix Grubel, “it simply gives the user information. But the next version of the app will be interactive in the sense that it will allow people to check into the places, find their friends, make comments, review places, upload pictures and earn badges”.

The app, which can be downloaded free of charge by anyone with an android phone, is set to have a positive impact on the Kenyan social scene in universities where previously it was difficult to get accurate and up-to-date information on the go.

Kenyabuzz Raha is available for download from www.kenyabuzz.com/raha or from the Google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kenyabuzz&feature=search_result

THE RELUCTANT OUTLAW; WHAT IT MEANS TO BE THE COUNTRY’S BLACK SHEEP; THE STORY OF A KENYAN MATATU DRIVER.

photo:Matwana ( matatu culture ) on facebook

I can say they hate us. I know they do! My son goes to school and says; “my dad is a matatu driver.” He is like, “what? A matatu driver?’’ it hurts and one is never proud.

I am one of those you just love to hate. We are the backbone of Kenya’s black market. Expected to pay off everyone from police to criminal gangs. Perhaps you don’t have any idea what it is like to be the black sheep of a country.

But let me explain. We wake up every morning at 3 to bring milk to Nairobi. From there; we take cops who have been on night duties home. Then, we pick up newspaper vendors, company drivers, office workers and your school kids.

After we are done with you; we take your housewife or houseboy to their secret lovers. Then comes Sunday and the entire Christian community depends on us. The pastors ought to pray for us; seeing we are assisting in their missionary work. But instead; they condemn us for missing the Sunday service.

We are lucky that it is not them but God judges us. Otherwise, we could be the most cursed human beings on the face of the earth.

Daniel Owira ‘Otongolo’ Finally Tweets President Uhuru And Gets 4000 Followers Instantly!!

uliza links notes-http://www.ulizalinks.co.ke/daniel-owira-otongolo-finally-tweets-president-uhuru-and-gets-4000-followers-instantly/

“Tweet me Mr president tweet me”

These are the words of the Highway Secondary school boy Daniel Owira alias Otongolo after making the choral verse presentation at the presidential gala in state house Mombasa.

After receiving the full sponsorship of his education from H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta he had an interview on NTV prime news with Larry Madawo.

The  interesting part is that Daniel  now has a twitter account (@DanielOwira) which was  opened live on air by Larry Madowo.

He immediately tweeted the president and this is what he said:

Here is the video of  his interview on NTV Kenya.

First of all, you have to appreciate the value the media has added to this young man for highlighting his plight. Well, from being a poor young man who could not even afford his school fees, Daniel Owira is now one of the biggest names in the country. Just a few days after his performance at state house Mombasa, the form 2 student got a tour of the state house and the president offered to pay his school fees until he finishes university.

Now, Naivas, one of the leading supermarkets in the country has taken Daniel’s talent to the next level and gone commercial with it, they have made an advert that features him! Well this is bound to go viral considering the timing. Just at form 2, the boy is making what a lot of people struggle to get into – the heights your talent can take you.
