THE MILITARY STRATEGY

by Oracles Vincent Libosso Chronicles on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10:37am ·

WHEN I CLEARED MY PRIMARY SCHOOL,JUST BEFORE JOINING HIGH SCHOOL,DAD CAME UP WITH THIS MILITARY STRATEGY TO HELP MY BROTHER BILL VENORAMOS LIBOSSO,IMPROVE HIS GRADES.
WELL DAD WAS TO WAKE UP BILL AT AROUND 4AM,THERAFTER,BILL WOULD TAKE A SHOWER AND LATER EMBARK ON HIS MORNING STUDIES.
FUNNY ENOUGH,MY BRO IS A MORE OF A NIGHT GUY THAN A MORNING GUY.SO THIS WAS GOING TO BE ONE HARD CHALLENGE.
THE OTHER DAY,AFTER DAD WOKE HIM UP,HE ACCIDENTALLY FELL ASLEEP.PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT OUR LITTLE ROOM IS OUTSIDE,THAT IS,IT IS DETACHED FROM THE MAIN HOUSE,HENCE HARD FOR DAD TO KEEP TRACK OF HIS MILITARY STRATEGY.
YESTERDAY BILL CAME UP WITH A PRETTY GOOD WAY TO GET SOME EXTRA SLEEP TIME WITHOUT MAKING DAD MAD.AFTER HE WOKE HIM UP,HE TOOK ALL OF HIS BLANKETS TO THE BATHROOM.THEN HE SPREAD IT ON THE FLOOR PARTLY AND COVERED HIMSELF PARTLY TOO.
THE EXPERIENCE,BELIEVE ME,WAS EVEN BETTER THAN BEING IN BED.THE PROBLEM WAS,BILL HADN'T FIGURED OUT THAT DAD WAS YET TO GO BACK IN AND SO WHEN DAD ROARED THAT HE WAS SUSPICIOUS ON WHETHER HE WAS TAKING A SHOWER OR NOT,BILL FROZE UP IN UTMOST SHOCK.

FINDING GOD

FINDING GOD

by Oracles Vincent Libosso Chronicles on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 1:58pm ·

WELL,YOU KNOW,SOMETIMES GOD ALLOWS THINGS TO HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE,TO MAKE YOU STRONGER,AND IF YOU`RE NOT CAREFUL,THEY COULD CAUSE YOU TO LOSE FAITH IF YOU LET IT.SEE AT 1 POINT IN TIME I HAD A HOUSE,CAR,MONEY-I THOUGHT I HAD IT GOING ON.I HAD ALL THIS MATERIAL STUFF.AND I WAS MISSING GOD.YOU SEE,GOD DOESN`T CARE HOW MUCH SIN YOU IN,IF HE WANTS YOU,HE`S GONNA REACH DEEP DOWN,INSIDE ALL OF IT AND JUST SNATCH YOU RIGHT UP OUT OF IT.HE DON`T CARE.

NO,I DIDN`T CARE THOUGH.JUST A LITTLE YOUNG,KNUCKLEHEADED KID RAISED BY HIS MUM.

MY MOM USED TO PRAY FOR ME ALL THE TIME.MOM COULD PRAY TO JESUS LIKE HIS KINGDOM WOULD COME.ANYWAY,I REMEMBER THE DAY-IT WAS ME AND MY 2 BROTHERS IN THE CAR.

WE HAD 3 KILOS OF COCAINE IN THE TRUNK.POLICE GOT BEHIND US AND PULLED US OVER.THEY TOLD ME TO SAY IT WAS MINE SINCE I WAS THE YOUNGEST.I DID.GOT ME 12 YEARS IN PRISON.NOW DON`T GET ME WRONG,PRISON IS A BAD PLACE,BUT THAT`S WHERE I FOUND GOD.SEE,AIN`T NO AMOUNT OF MONEY WORTH THE PEACE I HAVE RIGHT NOW.ICAN`T WALK EVERYDAY LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER,NOT KNOWING IF THIS IS THE DAY THAT I GO TO HELL.THAT`S NO WAY TO LIVE.

SO NOW,EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP,IT`S NEW MERCIES THAT I SEE.I`M A SAVED MAN,A NEW MAN AND I KNOW IT.I KNOW IT.

BLACK ROCK 2012; THE BIGGEST KENYAN RUGBY EVENT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR

BLACK ROCK 2012; THE BIGGEST KENYAN RUGBY EVENT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR

“Whatever happens at Black rock; stays at Black rock!!!”

The quarters saw Nairobi School team A beat Laiser Hill 7-0 to make it to the finals. The semis proved to be more action packed as Saints walloped Changes team 1, 7-0 while Nairobi School beat Rift Valley Academy 1-0 pushing through to the finals.

The final…now this is where all the real action began! It was Nairobi school, alias “Patch Machine” up against Saint Mary’s alias “Saints”.

It was an all out blood war for the main cup! Saints seemed to have the upper hand, being a home game and all that; but Patcherians were clearly not rattled by all the jeering that came from saints home supporters.

Within the first few minutes, Patch managed to push through saint’s defense line not once but thrice, giving them a 3- pointer lead!

Saints won the admiration of many for their heart and persistence. They never gave up and just kept pushing on!

Their efforts were however met by a brick wall like resistance from Patch Machine who seemed to be guarding their line with vehemence.

Each time saints got close to a touchdown, they were met by a spear or tackle from one of Patch’s bulky defenders. Come the second half and pressure was clearly on the Saints players. The whistle kept on blowing as Saints kept on making desperate mistakes- drop balls, forward passes…

As the game drew nigh, it was already clear Saints were clutching at straws in their bid to retain the prestigious Black rock title.

Sadly they didn’t quite line up to their expectation as the final horn blew, giving the cup to Patch courtesy of their 3-0 lead over Saints.

So, there you have it folks… Black rock champs and the last man standing 2012 are (drum roll please)…Nairobi School Team 1!

But the big question is, will they retain it next year?

BLACK ROCK SIDE DISH…

Nairobi School B lost the plate to Ofafa Jericho and Sunshine bagged the Bowl after beating MFA (Moi Forces Academy).

But what is Black rock without swag? Every event has its sideshows. This one had its own too. From making out in public, to fights, mobbing and who has the loudest cheering squad.

The parking lot was more of an event itself. Complete with sound systems from the vehicles and making- out couples.

But as they say; “WHATEVER HAPPENS IN BLACK ROCK… STAYS IN BLACK ROCK!!!!!!!!!!”

London 2012: International stars help make Games unforgettable

Usain Bolt
Country: Jamaica
Sport: Athletics
London 2012 record: Gold - 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay
Usain Bolt
Bolt declared himself "the greatest athlete" of all time after defending the three sprint golds he won in Beijing four years ago. By his own admission the 25-year-old went into the Games only 95% fit and, after being been beaten by compatriot Yohan Blake in the Jamaican trials, he was being questioned like never before. However, Bolt not only delivered on all fronts in athletics terms but also lit up the Games with the sort of showmanship and playfulness he has become renowned for.
Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps
Country: United States
Sport: Swimming
London 2012 record: Gold - 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 4x200m freestyle relay, 4x100m relay. Silver - 200m butterfly, 4x100m freestlye relay
The American was already an Olympic legend before London 2012 after incredible success at Athens in 2004 and Beijing four years ago, and Phelps duly became the most succesful Olympian of all time when he won his 16th gold by beating Ryan Lochte in the 200m individual medley. The 27-year-old wasn't done there, adding two more golds to his incredible haul before heading for retirement with a record 18 golds and 22 Olympic medals in total.
David Rudisha

David Rudisha
Country: Kenya
Sport: Athletics
London 2012 record: Gold - 800m
Rudisha may not have the flamboyant attitude of Bolt, but the Kenyan delivered a breathtaking performance that dazzled the crowd in the Olympic Stadium. The 800m final was the fastest of all time with seven of the eight athletes running personal bests - five of them under 1:43 seconds. But the field was blown away by Rudisha, who led from start to finish, sprinting clear down the home straight to break his own world record.
Shiwen Ye
Shiwen Ye
Country: China
Sport: Swimming
London 2012 record: Gold - 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley
The 16-year-old epitomised China's growing strength in swimming - they won five golds to finish second behind the United States in the pool - when she smashed the world record to win the 400m individual medleybefore going on to win a second gold in the 200m individual medley. A coach from the United States, John Leonard, called her performance "disturbing" but she retorted that his criticism "may be sour grapes". Ye said the secret of her success was simply that her training had been focused on the 400m medley.
Gabby Douglas
Gabby Douglas
Country: United States
Sport: Gymnastics
London 2012 record: Gold - Individual all-around final, women's team final.
The diminutive 16-year-old became the first woman to win all-around and team gymnastics golds at the same Olympics. Nicknamed "the flying squirrel", Douglas hit top form on each of the four pieces and became the first African American to win all-around gold. Douglas will not forget her achievements in a hurry, not least because a giant mural has been painted in her home town of Virginia Beach.
Wojdan Shaherkani
Wojdan Shaherkani
Country: Saudi Arabia
Sport: Judo
London 2012 record: Round of 32 - Women's +78kg
Shahrkhani became the first Saudi Arabian woman to compete at the Olympics. The contest appeared to be an overwhelming experience for the Mecca-born 16-year-old, who is only ranked as a blue belt but wore the higher black belt to compete. A tentative Shahrkhani, who wore a tight-fitting black cap, quickly lost to Puerto Rican Melissa Mojica, but her father Ali said: "She was happy and smiled when she finished the fight. She hugged me and said: 'Daddy, I did this.' I was so proud."
Missy Franklin
Missy Franklin
Country: United States
Sport: Swimming
London 2012 record: Gold - 100m backstroke, 4x200m freestlye relay, 200m backstroke, 4x100m medley relay. Silver - 4x100m freestyle relay.
Franklin could be the next star of US swimming after equalling Michael Phelps's haul of four golds at the age of 17. Her success came on the back of five golds at the World Championships. Franklin now has to decide whether to turn to professional or go to college to study marine biology.
Anna Meares
Anna Meares
Country: Australia
Sport: Cycling
London 2012 record: Gold - women's sprint. Bronze - women's team sprint.
Team GB dominated the gold medals in the velodrome but Meares's sprint success was a moment to celebrate for Australia as she overcame arch-rival Victoria Pendleton of GReat Britain. The 28-year-old was beaten by Pendleton at Beijing four years ago after battling back from serious injuries she sustained in a crash. Meares was overjoyed when she crossed the line in London, later saying: "It's been such a difficult challenge. I've tried so much and worked so hard for a long period of time."
Kirani James
Kirani James
Country: Grenada
Sport: Athletics
London 2012 record: Gold - 400m
James won his country's first ever Olympic gold as he stormed away to win in a personal best of 43.94 seconds. The brilliant 19-year-old had already won the World Championship title and could one day threaten Michael Johnson's incredible world record of 43.18 that has stood for 13 years. "Grenada will be going crazy right now," said James after his win - the country has a population of just over 100,000.
Hamadou Djibo Issaka
Hamadou Djibo Issaka
Country: Niger
Sport: Rowing
London 2012 record: Last - Single sculls
"Issaka the Otter" won the heart of the crowds at the rowing despite finishing his two races more than a minute behind his competitors. A few months before the start of the Games, Issaka was a gardener in his country's capital, Niamey, when he took up rowing in a fishing boat. "I have no technique, I only rely on power," Issaka said. "I compete with courage, but there also people cheering me there, they applaud me and urge me to help me finish my race and I will do it."

The social media medallists

FROM THE BBC...

The bell has just rung, and we're on the final lap. Yes, the social media Olympics are drawing to a close and it is shaping up to be a triumph.
We were told at the start that this would be the first Olympics where athletes, spectators and the global audience connected via the social networks - and, amazingly, that prediction was spot on.
The television audiences have of course been huge - but even if you had never been near a TV during the last two weeks, you could have experienced all the joy, despair and sheer exuberant excitement of the games through Twitter, Facebook and the various photo sharing sites.
They have been used by athletes to communicate directly with their fans in a way that was unimaginable just a few years ago, and by the public to give a completely different perspective on the games than that provided by the mainstream media.
And the social networks have been the place to be if you wanted to be first with the news, from the row over empty seats at venues, to the British pole vaulter who announced her engagement on Twitter.
So the time has come for me to hand out some medals in the Social Media Olympic Games. I have three categories in which I'm awarding medals.
I've crowdsourced the awards, asking for nominations on Twitter, but in the end I've used my own skill and judgement. Feel free to add your own nominations.

Top tweeters

My Twitter timeline is almost entirely dominated by the Olympics and this category is very competitive. Honourable mentions go to BBC colleagues@clarebalding1 and @pearcesport and @corrie_corfield - the first two for their brilliance at communicating their expertise, the Radio 4 newsreader for her sheer delight about every aspect of the games. But in the end the medals go to these three Twitter titans:

Gold: @samuelljackson

Screenshot of Samuel L Jackon's tweet
When I first saw Samuel L Jackson's tweets, I laughed and then decided it could not be him. But it is! The Hollywood actor has lived every minute of the games - like most of us - via television and has communicated his enjoyment in all the exuberant profane style we might expect from the star of Pulp Fiction. We love him too because of his appreciation of our British athletes. Most of his tweets are unprintable on a family website, but this one - in which he praises the record breaking cycling team - is a good example of his style.

Silver: @bradwiggins

Screenshot of Bradley's tweet
Plenty of athletes have gained tens of thousands of followers as a result of their exploits over recent weeks - but the Tour de France winner and time trial gold medallist is a personal favourite. Bradley Wiggins does not tweet much - but when he does it seems to be from the heart, as with this one the night after his victory. Sadly, a purported Twitter exchange between Wiggins and Piers Morgan turned out to be nothing to do with the cyclist. But it says something about the Modfather's ultra-cool persona that so many people believed it was him.

Bronze: @timberners_lee

Screenshot of tweet
Now, after his tweet at the opening ceremony which attracted record numbers of re-tweets, the web's founding father should have been a shoo-in for gold. But since then he has been resting on his laurels, with not a single new tweet, and that means he's been lapped by Jackson and Wiggins. But the man who made all of this activity possible still deserves a bronze - even if NBC has never heard of him.

Best social media picture

There have been countless memorable pictures captured by professional photographers at these games. But some of the best most iconic images have been captured on smartphones by amateurs and then shared with the world over social networks.

Gold

Team Rwanda members waiting for a bus
Michael Acton Smith was on his way to work in East London when he spotted these Rwandan athletes waiting for a bus outside his office. Michael - the man behind the Moshi Monsters online childrens' game - took a picture and gave it the caption "This is why I love the Olympics. Team Rwanda at my bus stop" and if anything sums up the spirit of 2012, this picture does it for me.

Silver

Ruben Limardo posed with his gold medal for fellow DLR passengers
In a similar vein, this picture of a Venezuelan fencing gold medallist on the tube tells the story of a games where world class athletes were not too proud to mix with the rest of us. A number of people seem to have spotted him - this picture was tweeted by the comedian Omid Djalilianother by Chris Scanlan who said: "We had a fiesta in the carriage and had pictures taken with the gold medallist, it was an amazing atmosphere."

Bronze

Police officers struck a Usain Bolt pose
Just before the games got underway, BBC Sport's Frank Keogh snapped this very amusing picture of police officers near the Olympic Park doing a tribute to Usain Bolt. And once the Jamaican superstar had won the 100 metres, he reposted it on his @honestfrank Twitter account, since when it has been re-tweeted more than 120,000 times.

Top Team

Even if the Olympics celebrates individual endeavour, there is always a team behind the winners. And that holds true in the Social Media Olympics too - so let's pick some medal winning teams.

Gold: Team GB

As we've celebrated the gold rush for British athletes, Team GB's social media efforts have kept it ahead of the pack. With a hugely popularFacebook page, and around 600,000 Twitter followers this team has been a "must follow" for British fans. It's not just about the latest results, Team GB has engaged with its audience.

Silver: 2012ticketalert

One of the few lowpoints of the games has been the huge frustrations of dealing with the Olympics tickets website, which seemed design to inspire hope only to dash it after a long wait. The very smart folks who set upthis Twitter account to help navigate the tortuous path to spare tickets have won huge gratitude from their customers.

Bronze: @L2012PoolCam

But a much more popular and useful aspect of the London 2012 website has been the various live cameras at the venues. Linked to Twitter accounts, they have at least given fans who have not been able to get near the venues a taste of what it's like to be there - or even to take part.
