PICTURE FOR THE DAY

The Olympics are just about to begin in London. With less than 10 days to go, could President Obama be indicating what the world is to expect from Kenya since he traces his roots to Kenya?

BREAKING NEWS...Tanzania rescue bid as ferry sinks off Zanzibar

I listened to the BBC yesterday evening and how they handled this story through involving those at the scene through phone calls and facebook and it was impressive.

At least 24 people have died after a Tanzanian ferry carrying about 280 passengers and crew sank near the island of Zanzibar.
Two of the victims were Europeans, a Zanzibar minister said. Officials say 145 people have been rescued, but dozens are still missing.
The boat had left the city of Dar es Salaam, mainland Tanzania, earlier in the day.
The navy said it got into difficulty because of strong winds.
"We have so far received 24 bodies, including two Europeans," Zanzibar's Transport Minister Hamad Masoud Hamad told reporters.
The BBC's Aboubakar Famau in Dar es Salaam said the MV Skagit ferry left the city at 12:00 local time (09:00 GMT) bound for the main island of the semi-autonomous archipelago.

The journey usually takes about two hours.

A safety officer at the Zanzibar Port Corporation told Reuters news agency the ferry was now "bottom-up".
Last September, nearly 200 people died when an overcrowded boat with 800 people aboard sank off Zanzibar.
The route between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar is a busy crossing, popular with both Tanzanians and foreign tourists.

KENYAN “VULTURES” BEWARE GRAFFITTI ART SPEAKS!

KENYAN “VULTURES” BEWARE GRAFFITTI ART SPEAKS!

They target Kenya’s political elite with a single message in mind- “Kenyan politicians are vultures, preying on the weak”.

Our people, here in Africa, say that ears that do not listen will roll into the rubbish pit with the head. They also say that such ears don’t understand the meaning of the word “medicine”.

This is especially so when the word is pronounced by the lips, which these ears would not like to hear that they have been seen eating, drinking, laughing, kissing, smiling and doing all the simple things of life that lips do.

At any rate, royal ears ought to listen, even to lips they do not like. But even if they will not listen, they must still be told.
The lips of these young men have vowed to speak via graffiti art to the royal ears, even when they know such ears are deaf. Their pain turned to anger then to activism.
Ours may be the dialogue of the deaf. For what do you do when the leadership elects tend to be hard of hearing? Despite decades of corruption, scandals implicating leaders and other injustices, not one senior Kenyan politician has been brought to justice.

The power of visual art, whether photography and now graffiti can do so much. That is why they have decided to paint walls of major buildings in Nairobi CBD with a plea to Kenyans that the power is in their vote and that there needs to be a ballot revolution.

The idea according to these talented artistes is for everyone to see it wherever they go and they burn inside with questions as to whether they are stupid and why do we still vote for these people.

That was why, when the rock would not respond to the hyena’s greetings, the poor animal said to the rock, “RESPOND YOU MAY NOT WANT TO, BUT YOU HAVE HEARD ME ALL THE SAME.”

WHY “COMRADE POWER” WILL DETERMINE THE WINNER OF TPF 5 2012

WHY “COMRADE POWER” WILL DETERMINE THE WINNER OF TPF 5 2012

BLOGER NOTE: THIS IS A SELF OPINIONATED HUNCH I HAVE!
There it goes, I said it! There is something in our Kenyan universities and the whole Africa called “comrade power”. This is the voice of unity among peers that steers them.
In my own view, if ever the Tusker Project Fame 5 will remain a two finalist horse battle, then the two would be Doreen and Ruth. And “comrade power” will determine the winner.

Doreen has eluded the sharp noose of eviction severally. Infact, social Medias claim that she has a massive support from the University of Nairobi and that she may not leave the house. Infact, the source claims that the Nairobi University comrades do door to door campaigns to keep her in the house.
Ruth, who hails from Daystar University has also been gaining ground not only from fellow “Daystarians” but also from Kenyans as a whole and East Africa. Plus, she has an upper advantage since she has won admiration and heart of her teachers, faculty and judges (only this week saw her first probation since the event began!). Plus, Principal Hellen Mtawali is a Daystar University lecturer.
So, I foresee Ruth Matete winning TPF5, but then again she has this week to impress East Africa and hope she is saved after she was put on probation on Sunday 15 Th July 2012.

our hunch was right and Ruth did win...hot secrets blog featured it like this...

RUTH MATETE IS THE TPF CHAMPION

So, Ruth, is now a millionaire after Sunday’s victory at the Tusker Project Fame show concluded.

The 26-year-old was shocked that she was the winner of the competition that saw her floor 14 other contestants to bag the loot and the title of TPF 5 winner.

Anyhow, Ruth is a graduate of communication from Day Star University and was raised by a single dad after her mum passed on when she was 8 years old.

The reactions on social media were diverse. Here, sample some….

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: MEET RUTH MATETE, THE ANGELIC SINGING QUEEN…

The first time I bonded with Ruth Matete was at the TV- room in Daystar University on a Tuesday morning. Little did I know, being a Chapel Tuesday, Ruth would lead the Praise and Worship session? And to say the least, she brought the “church down” with her angelic voice and swag.
But behind her beautiful smile and deep voice, is a story of a daddy’s girl who has risen above adversary to inspire others. We bonded after with her, but mainly in the TV- room before she went to the Tusker Project Fame.
The only child from a sole- parental  family, she began singing at 8. Her mother died when she was only 8 and she has been raised solely by her dad ever since.
Having completed her diploma course in communication at Daystar University and awaiting to graduate next year, she is the daughter of a talented actor, who doubles up as a freelance radio presenter. The dad acts as Mr. Mwambu on the local drama series “Mali” which airs on “NTV”.
To her, her dad has been a great influence and a source of motivation.
