LESSONS FOR DUSA-NAIROBI LEADERS IN OFFICE…

BY EMBUKANE VINCENT LIBOSSO FOR THE INVOLVEMENT NEWSPAPAER.
I am an enthusiast of politics; but one who sits and watches the action from a far of. So; allow me today to borrow from my friend; political analyst- Barrack Muluka.
First of all; receive greetings from the humble people of Daystar-Nairobi village; Mr. President Elvis Ingandi. The Oracle has said that whichever way it looks at it; you were destined to occupy the “House on The Hill.”
You grew up here practically; as the previous chair of Clubs and Societies. In a sense, you are only back home. It is a changed world that you have returned to; however.

Now people know how to say things like; “Haki Zetu!” people now know how to stand-up for their rights. They will stand up to you. In very clear language; they will tell you, “No!” that is lesson number one.
Lesson number two is that we did not all vote for you. You definitely know that I voted for your nemesis- Gift Mirie. I trust that you will not take it out on us; or will you?
The way I understand it, you did not defeat us, we elected you. But if the thinking is that you “defeated us”; then you should also let us know. This will help us know what to make of your new tour of duty.
For now; congratulations. And there are some things we expect of you. First, is that you will not discriminate against us. But if you discriminate against us; we shall also discriminate against you. You have a tall order.
You have to make all of us feel like we belong to you and that you belong to us. If you do not; we shall say, “Their DUSA. Their chairman.” I am sure you would hate that.
The Oracle expects that you will bring back the rule of law and honor your manifesto; pledges and promises. For a start; you need an inclusive council and committee. But despite me writing this I have already seen the names up on the noticeboards of who made it to the committees.

Talk on the Daystar streets is that you will also not recycle old stuff that we are fed up with. The list of different committees has elicited a wide debate amongst students and rumor has it that it was a hefty reward to the leaders’ elect loyal supporters.
If so; then you have fallen into the trap of allowing fellows who quickly ensconced around you so that you can remember them. This will surely be the beginning of the end.
Daystarians are watching you; Mr. President and your kitchen cabinet. As for me; I watch with my pen in my hand. Finally; Mr. President and your team; never forget that the destiny of this great university has been placed in your hands; at a time such as this.
It is now within your ability to make or break this university. I trust that your proclivity will be towards making it.
You can make us one thriving and united university or you can make us a ragtag of mutually hostile like tribes that bay for each other’s blood.

The choice is yours sir. And so help you God. More in the next issue hopefully; Mr. President and your team. Do not fail to look at this page or look out for this writer. The Oracle will keep you company throughout.
