BLACK ROCK 2012; THE
BIGGEST KENYAN RUGBY EVENT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL
CALENDAR
“Whatever happens at Black rock; stays at
Black rock!!!”
The quarters saw Nairobi School team A beat Laiser Hill 7-0 to
make it to the finals. The semis proved to be more action packed as Saints
walloped Changes team 1, 7-0 while Nairobi School beat Rift Valley Academy 1-0
pushing through to the finals.
The final…now this is
where all the real action began! It was Nairobi
school, alias “Patch Machine” up against Saint Mary’s alias “Saints”.
It was an all out blood
war for the main cup! Saints seemed to have the upper hand, being a home game
and all that; but Patcherians were clearly not rattled by all the jeering that
came from saints home supporters.
Within the first few
minutes, Patch managed to push through saint’s defense line not once but
thrice, giving them a 3- pointer lead!
Saints won the admiration
of many for their heart and persistence. They never gave up and just kept
pushing on!
Their efforts were
however met by a brick wall like resistance from Patch Machine who seemed to be
guarding their line with vehemence.
Each time saints got
close to a touchdown, they were met by a spear or tackle from one of Patch’s
bulky defenders. Come the second half and pressure was clearly on the Saints
players. The whistle kept on blowing as Saints kept on making desperate
mistakes- drop balls, forward passes…
As the game drew nigh, it
was already clear Saints were clutching at straws in their bid to retain the
prestigious Black rock title.
Sadly they didn’t quite
line up to their expectation as the final horn blew, giving the cup to Patch
courtesy of their 3-0 lead over Saints.
So, there you have it
folks… Black rock champs and the last man standing 2012 are (drum roll please)…Nairobi School Team 1!
But the big question is, will
they retain it next year?
BLACK ROCK SIDE DISH…
But what is Black rock
without swag? Every event has its sideshows. This one had its own too. From
making out in public, to fights, mobbing and who has the loudest cheering
squad.
The parking lot was more
of an event itself. Complete with sound systems from the vehicles and making-
out couples.
But as they say;
“WHATEVER HAPPENS IN BLACK ROCK… STAYS IN BLACK ROCK!!!!!!!!!!”
