KEN WA MARIA RELEASES A “QUAIL” ANTHEM

#NEWVIDEOMUSIC

“Fundamentals” came and went viral and had everyone talking and singing to it. Then came a Lupita dedication and he saw the light, shaving his dreadlocks.

Well, now the king of Kamba Benga Music; Ken Wambua aka Ken Wamaria is back with yet another killer anthem that seems will get the people talking even more. Remember the quail business and pyramid-like scheme that hit Kenya last year, well Ken has come out with another super-hit revolving on that: ‘matumbi ma quail”. What do you think?

LESSONS FOR THAT PERFECT SELFIE SNAP…

#selfie2014

Last year was in my opinion, the “year of selfies.” It was oxford Dictionary’s word of the year: the selfie.
Barack Obama; David Cameron, Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep and even Pope Francis have done it. So have Rihanna, the entire Kardashian Klan and every other celebrity on the planet. It is the reason Instagram will become 2014’s biggest social media account yet.

While you may not have Kim Kardashian looks, it’s imperative to know how to take a good photo of yourself considering the number of people who will see it. So don’t ever be in a rush to put it on Instagram; Facebook and twitter before you can say (hash tag) selfie.
If last year was described as the year of social media, trust me, it will have nothing on this year. So here are a few commandments on how to take a picture of yourself.

1.      Always have the tallest person hold the camera, or your phone. That prevents the double and triple chin, and it captures everyone.

2.      Use all those layers of filters. Don’t buy into the hype of celebrities who post barefaced selfies on social media.

3.      Selfies are not about you. Let others in on the fun. Selfies get feedback-and let’s be honest, you are posting because you want that.

4.      Edit. Edit. Edit. That’s why you have filters; apps, presentation formats and Lord knows what else on your smartphone and tablet.

5.      Those glamorous, stunning images in magazines are not one-offs. It takes 100 images to get one perfect shot. Keep snapping until you have three hard- to –pick options, then choose the best and post. Return that favour even when it includes other people. They want to look good too.

6.      Selfies are for all. Share that hair change, great looks or your new accessory.

7.      Photography rules apply. Check your background as natural light is always the best. Take a few test shots to get your flattering side.

8.      Captions are just as critical as images.

9.      Smile. Yes. I know. Everyone blows a kiss and sometimes even look pretty hot. Don’t do it. If you wouldn’t want that face in your parent’s family album being thumped through by non-digital strangers.

10.  No matter what Kim Kardashian’s 579392 likes indicate or two million Baby Monster tweets; you must flaunt your best assets. If eyes are your best feature, wear mascara; eyeliner or eye shadow. If it is your lips, get a lip colour that is flattering to your skin tone.

LIVERPOOL & EVERTON FANS UNITED AT ANFIELD FOR THE HILLSBOROUGH MEMORIAL SERVICE

#HILLSOBOROUGHMEMORIAL

This season seems a season for history to be made at Anfield. This past weekend’s win for Liverpool over City took Liverpool to a historic season. For the first tome, they have been named favorites to win the Premier league title since its formation over 20 years ago.

Another history was again writer this Tuesday when Everton and Liverpool fans were united at Anfield for a memorial service- marking exactly 25 years since the Hillsborough tragedy.

Before the City-game kick-off; there was a minute’s silence in memory of the 96 Liverpool supporters killed in a crush during a FA cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium on April 15, 1989.

The memorial service was led by Liverpool and Everton coaches, Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez respectively. This month saw a new inquest into the death of the Hillsborough 96, start in Warrington, east of Liverpool, after the original coroner’s verdicts were quashed by the High Court in December 2012 amid claims of a police cover up.

FIRST LADY KENYATTA RUNS TO CURB MATERNAL, INFANT DEATHS

#Kenya at London Marathon

A Campaign aiming to create awareness and raise funds to tackle issues that affect maternal and child health and mother to child transmission of HIV, is what First Lady Margaret Kenyatta had when she first launched the Beyond Zero Campaign.

On Sunday evening, the first family scored several firsts in London, with Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta participating in one of the world’s elite athletics events and a sitting president on the sidelines to cheer her on.

A grueling 42-km race; it started at 10.30 am local time when most of us Kenyans were attending church and she was still running by the time most of us here at home were starting to plan for supper.
Her participation was part of the campaign that aims to raise 3.6m pounds to buy mobile clinics for all the 47 counties to increase access to better health.

Covering 300km in high altitude training, 21 km at the Nairobi First Lady’s marathon, 6-day training and an acclimatization period in London, was all part of the epic preparations for the London Marathon. Running for 7 hours nonstop is no walk in the park, but neither is preventing about 113, 500 infant and maternal deaths in a poor country such as Kenya.

But with the limelight on the First Lady, the spotlight too turned for historic firsts for Kenya at the marathon. Kenyan athletes made history with the first and second places in both men’s and women’s races going to Kenyans. Both Wilson Kipsang and Edna Kiplagat won.
Mrs. Kenyatta could as well be very well on her way into the World’s Guinness Book of Records. With a record of sorts, Mrs. Kenyatta has been quoted in the local media saying she is not in the marathon for nay records but purely to create awareness and raise funds towards her campaign.
